Hello, we are the 4d. class from the “Kirchengasse” school in Graz
(www.graztourismus.at), that’s in the south of AUSTRIA. We are 9 girls and 14 boys.
We are all between 13 and 15 year old and live in or near Graz. Most of the boys are
skaters. We are an “Integrationsklasse”, which means that there are some children with
handicaps(e.g. hearing problems) in our class. Our mother tongue is German, and we
study English (4th year) and Latin (2nd year). Most of us like doing sports - 2 boys from
our class have won the Styrian (regional) basketball championship. Graz is a very nice
town- it was the European Cultural Capital in 2003. Now we have some very
interesting new buildings in Graz, for example an island made of steel floating in the
middle of the river “Mur” (carrying a coffeehouse and an open stage, see
http://cms.graztourismus.at/cms/ziel/92072/DE/ ) and a “Kunsthaus” that looks like a giant blue
bubble or kidney or a like a jellyfish.( http://cms.graztourismus.at/cms/ziel/92072/DE/)
By the way, there are no Kangaroos in Austria! Instead, a lot of people go skiing or
snowboard or hiking in the mountains. Did you know that Arnold Schwarzenegger
grew up in Graz? In the center of Graz there is a lovely castlehill (without a castle,
because that was blown up by Napoleon I).

I live in a house with a big garden and a pond in it. My favourite sports
are basketball and badminton, I also like volleyball very much, and I
love to read. In the afternoons I play the piano. I`ve got a brother (10)
and a sister. My favourite color is red, and my favourite animals are
dogs. We`ve got a dog, her name is Dora and I`ve got two guinea pigs
too. My favorite food is pizza. And my biggest wish is to walk through
the Sahara desert!

Hi!
My name is Steve. I have blond hair and I am 1.75m tall. I like sports like tennis,
swimming, and skateboarding but I also like chocolate and playing computer games!
Sometimes I´ m very lazy. Then I sit on the sofa for many hours and watch television.
People who lie or don’t understand that I need my rest make me really angry! Then I
go to my room and listen to some music. My favourite music groups are Metallica,
Korn, Limp Bizkit and Linkinpark.

in deep snow (powder snow). That’s what I do in the winter. In the summer I go
swimming, biking and do many other things. One other hobby is books. I think they are

And this is the music that I listen to: Avril Lavigne, Frankee feat. Eamon, Britney

Now a little bit about my family: I have one sister, but no brother. My father lives in
Niederösterreich. That’s an Austrian province situated around Vienna. And I live in Graz
with my sister, my mother and my stepfather. We live in a big house with a garden and a
little swimming pool.

became acquainted to some new friends, with them I can laugh all the

And in winter I like skiing and snowboarding and playing ice hockey. During the week I
go to trampoline classes and do some skateboarding, but I’m only learning it. I like going
to school, because we have a lot of fun there, and we have nice teachers. We are 23

I love skateboarding, because I’m a real good skater, but my favourite

cleverest.
I like watching TV and playing computer games (I’m a real computer
freak!!).
My favourite TV series is “The Simpsons” and my favourite computer game
is “Delta Force” (an ego shooter!)

nice and funny boy. I don’t like the name of our school “Kirchengasse”, but
I must say, I’ve been to many different schools and this one is the best of
all. The teachers are pretty good, no they are really cool.
Now some things about me: My favourite, and in fact the only sport that
I’m doing is sk8tboarding! Every day after school I’m in my favourite
sk8teshop named Rollin. After I have done my homework, I usually go out
to skate. I also plan to build a sk8tepark with some of my best friends. My
other hobbies are swimming, reading and chilling out.
My favourite music is: The Offspring (the best rock group, I think),
Metallica (come on, they’re metal rock gods, aren’t they?), then the Red
Hot Chilli Peppers.
I love watching horror films, I’m a real horror freak. My favourite horror
films are Friday 13th, parts 1 to 9. They are the best.

Hi, I’m Alexander. I spend most of my free time on watching TV or playing
computer games. In summer I often go swimming in an outdoor swimming
pool, and in the winter I like to go skiing.
I’m sure I’ll either be a stockbroker, a lawyer or an interpreter. At school I
like learning foreign languages, but I hate the German grammar.
My favourite food is pizza, lasagne and seafood like crayfish, shrimps and
lobster. I also like chicken and duck in Chinese restaurants. In good and
expensive restaurants I eat barbecued bacon, lamb and turkey with rice,
pineapples and a little bit of spicy hot sauce. I also enjoy going to Greek,
Spanish, Japanese, steak and fast food restaurants. [Reading that, it’s
probably hard to believe that Alexander is still a slim boy! The teacher]
I have always wanted to fly to the USA or Japan, and when I’m older, I’ll
maybe live and work there.

OK, folks, that was it! One girl (Jen) that’s on the title picture is no longer in
our class, and some others haven’t handed in a text.
These are:
Johannes (Jo) a tall and very nice blond boy who’s very athletic and a
skilled basketball player, and Arno, his best friend. They both stay at
school full board during the week.
Sarah is a little sunshine, and a very confident and clever young lady, too.
She’s in a wheelchair but still goes to the gym regularly! She likes singing
very much, attends the school choir and has a private singing teacher.
Paul has come to us recently from another class. He is a quiet, friendly
and very helpful person. He likes computer games very much.
I’m Mark, the English teacher and class head. I also teach German (in
other classes) and have two drama groups - Jasmin, Tanja and Paul are in
one of them. I really like teaching (well, at least most of the time…  ). In
the evenings I often go to a cinema or a theatre, and whenever I have
enough time I go hiking, jogging or skiing. I play the guitar (badly but
happily) and I like listening to almost all kinds of music.
