Play to introduce the puppet ministry
Narrator:
Hey, what is this?
Puppet 1:
What do you mean - “What is this?”
Narrator:
I mean, well YOU – this!
Puppet 2:
Don't you know about the new puppet ministry, Puppet P.E.O.P.L.E. at Concord?
Narrator:
What is a puppet ministry, and you aren't people!
Puppet 1:
We are using puppets to tell people about Jesus!
Narrator:
Well, that tells me about puppets, but you; I don't know how to tell you this, aren't
people
Puppet 2:
Oh, I see what you mean. P.E.O.P.L.E. doesn't mean people. It means Puppets
Entertaining Others Proclaiming Life Everlasting!
Narrator:
That's great! I think I understand now. How are you going to tell people about Jesus?
Puppet 1:
We will entertain, enlighten, edify, and evangelize.
Narrator:
Wow. Those are some big words! What do they mean?
Puppet 2:
(looking at puppet 1) HUMANS! Don't they know anything?!
Puppet 1:
I know what you mean. What can ya' do?!

Puppet 2:
(addressing narrator) Okay. Entertain means to help you have fun through our shows.
Puppet 1:
Enlighten means to inform you or teach you something.
Puppet 2:
Edify means to build you up, or to establish you. We want to build you up in Jesus!
Puppet 1:
And evangelize means to tell people the good news about Jesus!
Narrator:
Well, that sounds great! But how are just the two of you going to do all of that?
Puppet 2:
(looking at puppet 1) Just the two of us? Oh, I see. No, it isn't just the two of us. We
have lots of friends.
Narrator:
Lots of friends? Are they the imaginary kind? I don’t see anybody but the two of you.
Puppet 1:
No. We have all kinds of different friends. (looks at Puppet 2) While this conversation
has been taking place - right after the narrator delivers his last line - all of the animal
hand puppets have been looking over the upper bar of the stage.
Narrator:
Hey, what is that! The narrator “senses” someone is watching him, and quickly turns
his head toward the upper bar. When the narrator says “hey,” the animal puppets duck
down.
Puppet 2:
Oh, I see some of our friends have been watching us. Guys! Come on out and meet our
new friends!
Animal puppets come back up above the bar and look around.
Narrator:
I am pleased to meet you! Who are you?
Each animal puppet introduces themselves by animal name and says “Pleased to meet
you, too!”
Goat:
The goat is the last to introduce himself. After saying “I am pleased to meet you too, he
turns to the children and says, Who are all these people down here? They look like they
would like to play with puppets!
Narrator:
These are the boys and girls of Concord Baptist Church! Boys and girls, why don’t you
introduce yourselves to our new friends?
After the introductions, the narrator turns back to the puppets and asks: Are these all
your friends?
Animal puppets leave the stage.
Puppet 1:
Oh, no; we have lots of friends. We have friends from the North Pole that can tell us a

special story about Christmas.
Santa, the Snowman, and the Reindeer come up above the bar.
Santa:
Ho, ho, ho! Hello boys and girls! Are you looking forward to celebrating Jesus’ birth at
Christmas?
Snowman:
In a falsetto voice – Hello boys and girls. Boy, it sure is HOT in here! Are you hot or is
it just me?
Narrator:
It is just fine for me, Snowman. Who is this? Looking at reindeer.
Reindeer:
I am one of the reindeer who pull Santa’s sleigh to help boys and girls celebrate
Christmas.
Narrator:
Well, you have an interesting collection of animal friends. But are you two the only
“people” puppets?
Puppet 2:
Oh no. We have lots of friends like us.
Puppet 3 pops up
Puppet 3:
Hey, everybody. What’s up?
Puppet 1:
Hey! We are glad you are here today. Meet our new friends.
Puppet 3:
I am please to meet you. Let me introduce you to my friend. Hey ______ come on up!
Puppet 4:
Hello, I am pleased to meet you.
Puppet 1:
So, you have met a few of our friends. We have a lot more you will meet over the next
few months. But sometimes I wonder what puppets are for? What do they do with us
after they buy us?
Puppet 2:
Oh, I know that. They ... they ... They put us up on a shelf in a closet and forget us.
(mildly angry) They don’t know how it feels. (Looking at someone in the audience)
Have you ever had a spider build a web on your face? It’s not very funny! They don’t
use us.
Puppet 1:
Oh, but they do now. I remember when I was just a piece of cloth . . .
Puppet 2:
Oh, here it goes.
Puppet 1:
Be nice! As I was saying, I was so excited. They sewed me up, and made me what I am
today. People are like puppets in some ways - they are all controlled by something.
Puppet 2:
By what?

Puppet 1:
The wise ones are controlled by God. With the others, it is many things.
Puppet 2:
I am glad we are at a church that understands the idea of church is to spread the gospel in whatever way is effective.
Narrator:
I know what you mean. I want to do my part in church. I’m not limited; I can do things.
I can witness, and to all ages - from preschoolers to adults. I want to get out and work. I
want to help tell people about Christ.
Puppet 1:
So do I. If I didn’t have to depend on people to control me, I’d be out witnessing every
day - in Sunday School, on mission trips, on retreats, on street corners, in Discipleship
Training, and even in worship services.
Narrator:
Well then, I am so glad that you and your friends have come to Concord! I know we
will be able to do great things together to tell people about Jesus! We will see you again
soon! Tell the boys and girls “bye!”
