Greece Trip Application Essay Rubric V2
The application process to go on the Greece trip has three phases. First, students are
asked to respond in an essay format to the questions below. Second, the instructional
staff of the Greece trip will interview students. Third students will be observed on a twoday outing involving hiking and backpacking.
Positive group dynamics and attitude is required for the trip to Greece. Individuals are
either part of the problem or part of the solution when it comes to group moral. Often
things may not go as planned. Punctuality is also a requirement for this trip. Students
must be able to wake up, eat breakfast, and pack every morning. The teachers’ authority
on this trip is final. Please describe in one or two paragraphs your attitude toward
authority, individuals you disagree with, and unforeseen adversity. Include in your
narrative specific examples of how you deal with adversity. In addition, please include
names and phone numbers of references that can describe your maturity, attitude, and
outlook on life.
Individuals will be asked to make presentations (independent studies) to the Greece group
during the trip, and upon our return to schools and the community about the Greece trip
itself. Individual and group projects will be used for assessment on course grades.
Please describe in one or two paragraphs your thoughts about presenting information to
the Greece group, KPBSD schools, and community.
Good physical conditioning is required to participate on this trip. We hope to hike, bike,
backpack, and kayak. There will also be a good deal of walking, lifting, and climbing.
Please describe in one or two paragraphs your overall physical condition and swimming
ability. Describe your willingness to participate in the above activities and your
experience in hiking, backpacking, and kayaking.
Cultural sensitivity is required to participate on this trip. We will be exposed to customs,
situations, and foods that are foreign to us. There will be unusual foods and mannerisms
in Greece. Alcoholic beverages may be served at some meals. We may observe nudity
on some of the beaches. You may have to wear a particular type of clothing or headgear.
Please describe in one or two paragraphs your attitude toward foreign cultures and
people. Please cite specific examples of foreign cultures you have experienced.
Please describe in your conclusion paragraph any reasons not previously discussed on
why you would like to go on the Greece trip.
