your Employment Assessment Centre, please review Sheridan’s full-time
program admission requirements outlined below under Program-Specific
Admission Requirements. Please note that to be extended an offer to
Sheridan and obtain an acceptance letter, you are required to meet the
admission requirements. We will be pleased to talk with you about your
program and Second Career. Also, please attend a Sheridan Second
Career Information Session - times and locations are noted at
www.sheridancollege.ca under Programs and Courses, then select
Second Career.

3. If Sheridan determines you do not meet the admission requirements
through transcripts or testing, we will provide you with information about
how you can most efficiently obtain the necessary prerequisites through
Sheridan’s Upgrading or ESL Programs.
4. If you are accepted into your program choice, you will receive an offer of
admission and, subsequently, a detailed acceptance letter, which you will
submit with your Second Career funding application.

Sheridan is an Ontario Public College and is certified to issue T2202A tax
receipts.
Sheridan recognizes that some students who enter a program at the College will
have earned postsecondary credits at other recognized postsecondary institutions
and may wish to apply these credits towards the Sheridan credential. Advanced
standing refers to the transferring of credit earned at another recognized postsecondary institution towards a Sheridan credential.
Students may apply to receive advanced standing for specific Sheridan course(s)
based on the successful completion of similar courses at other recognized
postsecondary institutions subject to meeting applicable Sheridan policies.

Candidates must have achieved a minimum course grade of C grade in the
course that is being considered for advanced standing, or the minimum pass for
the course for promotion within the program, whichever is higher.
Courses considered for advanced standing must have been completed within five
years prior to the request with the permission of the Dean of the respective

Mature students who apply to Sheridan’s certificate and diploma programs must
demonstrate their ability to work at the postsecondary level in one of two ways:

By successfully completing equivalency testing in English and/or
mathematics and/or; science or
By completing a program of academic upgrading at a level appropriate to
the program of choice.
Mature students must demonstrate proficiency in meeting specific program
prerequisites.
*If you do not have the required prerequisites, you may wish to enroll in
Sheridan’s Academic Upgrading program to obtain equivalent credits. Sheridan
also offers an ESL program. Preparatory training, such as academic upgrading, is
eligible for Second Career funding, subject to the approval of Employment
Ontario.

This is a 2 year full time program (4 semesters of 14 weeks each).

Option 1: Payment of total fees for one full year should be paid in full by the tuition

If you withdraw by the tenth scheduled day of the first term, then all fees are

You will undertake a 40-hour practicum during each year of your two-year makeup artist program. These practicums are driven by your areas of interest and can
range from working in a photographer’s studio or in live theatre to helping with
make-up application for television.

Courses are instructor-led. Students will engage in a variety of applied learning
and experiential activities and will complete multiple industry projects.
Students will have access to computers in open access computer labs.
College faculty are hired based on a combination of industry experience and
academic qualifications. Most full-time faculty have relevant Master’s degrees
and/or professional certifications where applicable to their field of expertise.
Faculty are provided with opportunities to engage in professional development to
ensure currency in their field as well as proficiency in teaching adults.
All Sheridan’s programs are designed and kept up to date with input from

transferable communication skills required by students for both academic and professional

response strategies, create well-reasoned reports, edit their own work, perform the fundamentals

Lecture and in-class activities will enable learners to be able to identify basic skin disorders. They
will be able to identify and classify the ingredients in a skin care product and explain their use in
the cosmetic industry. Through practical lab experiences students gain nail care skills required to

Students extend the techniques of highlight and contour in the creation of a theatrical makeup.
They render a male and female face in order to design and apply a variety of special makeup

television. They further refine techniques to meet new broadcast technology including high
definition. Students integrate film and televisoin set etiquette into classroom simulations using

on set makeup artist and learn to achieve continuity when shooting a production over an
extended period of time. They also review the effect of film lighting and its impact on makeup
application. Students perform applications under the time constraints typical of the film and

After two years of intensive study, students now need the skills with which to present themselves
to a prospective employer or client. The Cosmetic Portfolio course will guide the learner in the
development of an exciting and dynamic professional image, from resume to creative visual
portfolio. Emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary skills necessary to make a strong first
impression. Students will use class theory on grids, layout, colour, step by step design to create
these important tools. A professional photoshoot is organized to allow the students an opportunity
to design and implement various cosmetic techniques on models and as a result have
professional, finished pictures for their portfolio. They will also learn professional conduct while on
a photo shoot.

Students learn the expectations of field placement experiences that occur in Semester 4. They
investigate topics to assist them in securing a placement in a cosmetic industry sector of interest

and application of documentation prior to, during and post-placement. Students also engage with
community partners in the completion of a minimum number of volunteer hours related to the
cosmetic/makeup artist industry.

representation of their work. Students determine an area of focus for their portfolio and have lab

participate in a photo shoot with a professional photographer that will provide them with high level
of finished content as they build their body of work. Students also organize an independent photo
shoot that is directed by their own areas of interest in the cosmetic industry. They extend the

Out-of-Kit SPF/X Makeup

Students extend learning from previous semesters in the creation of out-of-kit special makeup
effects. Topics include execution of bald caps, the design and application of bruises, cuts, scars,
burns and diseases. They learn how to create a variety of characterizations using crepe hair,
blocking of eyebrows and use of wigs. Students apply prosthetics as part of their character
design and development.
