3/3/2016 Pigman Essay Schylar Martinook Pigman Essay By: Schylar Martinook April 5th The exciting novel the Pigman takes us on a crazy adventure, where two some what reckless insecure teenagers find a father figure, that turns out to be a best friend. This friendly older Italian man takes these two teens, John and Lorraine to many places, and gives them some where to go. He was understanding and forgiving when it came to life and death situations. This mans name is Mr. Pignati. The Pigman was a father figure for John and Lorraine. Mr .Pignati was like a father, because he treated John and Lorraine like they were his own children. He was always so willing to buy them things, make sure they had some where to go after school or whenever they needed to. For example Mr. Pignati took them “to the fancyfood store on the eighth floor (73). In Beekman’s department store. He would always offer John and Lorraine beverages like pop, or snacks like chocolate covered ants. The Pigman was always willing to play games with the two of them. He’s always telling a joke. All these little things show how Mr. Pignati was a father figure for John and Lorraine. Wife of the Pigman, Conchetta died. Mr. Pignati was a very lonely man, looking for friends, making all of this easier for him to act like a father. The only memory he had of his wife was of all the pigs he has in a separate room from everything, and of all her dresses. Mr. Pignati was a lonely man just looking for friends, until John and Lorraine came along. An Example of Mr. Pignati being lonely was when he said “My wife is on vacation with my sister,” making him sound like he doesn’t want to believe that his wife is dead. John really looked up to Mr. Pignati because John’s own dad didn’t treat him very well in the first places. John drinks a lot now. When he was younger his dad set a bad example, because he was an alcoholic also encouraging John to drink. John really wanted to take advantage of that opportunity. Lorraine didn’t really have a family because her dad passed away, and her mother acted as if she didn’t really care for her. She was very abusive towards Lorraine. Mr. Pignati was nothing like their parents, that made the three of them get along so well. Mr. Pignati loved to tell John and Lorraine stories and them them to stores, and the zoo. The Pigman was in the hospital for having a heart attack, and Mr. Pignati lost their trust when he came home to John and Lorraine having a party with out his permission in his house. John and Lorraine were trying to gain Mr. Pignatis trust back, so they asked him if the three of them would want to go to the zoo to see bobo, a monkey the Pigman just loved, when they got their Mr. Pignati already had forgiven them. They then found out that the monkey had passed away which gave Mr. Pignati a heart attack, where he passed away from being so sad and frustrated from what was all going on. John and Lorraine realized how big of a father figure Mr. Pignati was. When this has all occurred, John and Lorraine realized that all the places the Pigman took the two of them, like to the zoo. Mr. Pignati in the end cared the most for John and Lorraine, that showing when he forgave the two of them for throwing a party with out his permission.
