One dark, foggy night, my friends and I headed out to trick-or-treat. It had been a joke at first, we didn’t really believe anybody would be there.

But my little sister begged to see old King’s Manor. The haunted house looked like a wild animal, with its dark windows slightly slanted and torn.

When we approached calling out , “Trick or treat!” the door slowly creaked open and remained ajar, as though some kid before us had gone to the house seeking tricks-or-treats, and had been eaten for disturbing whatever may lay behind it. Legend was that no one had lived at Ki ng’s Manor since before our town had come to this area. My dad had told me the story of a mad scientist who had lived there. One night he and his wife, who everybody at the time believed was a witch, had raised a were wolf out of their family dog. Sounds stupid I know, but I later heard from my friends that some of the townsfolks had begun to disappear and zombies, resembling those missing people could be seen roaming the streets of the town that same night. Hours earlier, it was said that suddenly a blood curdling scream could be heard coming from King’s Manor. The mad scientist and his wife had created creatures to take revenge upon those in

Now the ghosts of the mad scientist and his wife can be heard and sometimes seen in the windows of old King’s Manor waiting for their next victims. There was the sound of footsteps dragging the floor as we got our bags ready…………..

Set the stage and read the story with your kids, you may want to ask them to take notes on the important things they hear. Then review the elements of a scary story used to make this story super scary! The elements are underlined for you.
