Applicant must be a full-time student in an accredited Missouri college or university and with an interest or intent of pursuing an insurance, risk management, or actuarial science course of study. Deadline: March 31 *Upsilon Omega Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity ScholarshipThe Upsilon Omega Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity is again making available to high school seniors a one-time non renewal scholarship in the amount of $1000.00. Eligibility Requirements: African American males who are seniors Essay 3 Letters of Recommendation Official transcript Written statement explaining need for financial assistance. Deadline: March 27 *Douglass School Alumni Association Scholarship-This scholarship is awarded to any male or female student who is a descendant of any person who attended Douglass Elementary or Douglass High School in Webster Groves, Missouri. Requirements: The recipient must have a “C” average Will be attending an accredited Junior College, University, or Technical School The scholarship is for one year and non renewable Completion of scholarship application, including essay and faculty letter of recommendation Complete a 1-page written essay discussing your future educational and vocational career goals and how you plan to use the scholarship money Submit TWO COPIES (original and one copy) of your scholarship application, including the essay and faculty letter of recommendation to: Douglas School Alumni Association Scholarship Application 1759 Legend Lane Court St. Louis, MO 63146 This scholarship will be awarded based on quality of essay and how well the applicant meets the criteria. High school grades and financial need will be considered but will not be the only criteria for the scholarship being awarded. Deadline: March 14 *SIUE Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship-The Alumni Association’s Board of Directors will award one full scholarship to an incoming freshman in addition to five $100 scholarships. Eligibility: The children, grandchildren and siblings of SIUE graduates that are SIUE Alumni Members are eligible to receive this award. Applicants are judged on their GPA, ACT/SAT scores, community service, after-school activities, and their financial need. Deadline: February 28 *SIUE Alumni Association “Stahlschmidt Family Legacy” Scholarshipwill award two $1,500 scholarships to incoming SIUE students beginning with the fall 2009 semester. Applicants must be incoming freshman or transfer students to SIUE and must be enrolled full time at the University. Applicants will be judged on financial need, GPA, ACT/SAT scores, community service, after-school activities and essay questions. Scholarships are one-time awards and go directly to the SIUE Bursar for payment of tuition. Deadline: February 28 *Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship-The men of Alpha Gamma Sigma believe the values of scholarship and service to be important qualities in all men. For this reason Alpha Gamma Sigma has established a scholarship that is meant to reward male high school seniors who are intent upon attending the University of Missouri-Columbia. We cannot guarantee the amount of the scholarship, but in years past the average scholarship award has been $500. Candidates are encouraged to fill out the attached scholarship for review. Finalists will be invited to interview with the scholarship committee. The number of scholarships awarded will be determined by the number of quality applicants. Becoming a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma is not a requirement to receive this scholarship. *Optimist International Essay Contest-The Optimist Club of North St. Louis County will award one $500 scholarship to the winner of the Club’s competition. That winner will advance to the District competition and compete for a $650 scholarship. The District winner will then advance to the International competition. The winners at the International competition receive: First Prize: $6,000 scholarship; Second Prize: $3,750 scholarship; Third Prize: $2,250 scholarship. This year’s essay topic is “For Me, Optimism is . . . ”. Deadline: February 6 *Stacy Smith Foundation-is a non-profit organization committed to college bound students in the St. Louis metropolitan area providing scholarships for worthy students. In an effort to turn tragedy into triumph, the Stacy Smith Foundation was established to honor the remarkable life that Stacy Smith led before he was struck down by gun violence in October 2007. They will be awarding two $500 scholarships. Deadline: March 15 *HACEMOS St. Louis Chapter Scholarship-The St. Louis Chapter of the Hispanic/Latino Employee Association of AT&T (HACEMOS) awards annual scholarships to meritorious Hispanic college students or college bound high school seniors. The objective of the scholarship is to promote and advance the education of Hispanics in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Deadline: March 9 “Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year” (SAMMY) 2009 AwardThe SAMMY 2009 Award Program recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the contiguous United States. An athlete from your high school could be one of the 25 winners who will each received the following: A $7,500 college scholarship from the Milk Processor Education Program Invitation for winners, parents and/or guardians to attend a SAMMY 2009 weekend at the Disney World Complex in Orlando, FL scheduled for June 2009 An opportunity to be pictured in a special congratulatory Milk Mustache ad in a June 2009 edition of USA TODAY and other national publications Judging of the nominees will be based on five criteria: academic performance (35%), athletic excellence (35%), leadership (15%), community service (10%) and milk experience (5%). Applicants must enrolling in a college or technical school for the fall 09 school year. The approximate amount of the scholarship will be $500 per recipient. Each gift is a one-time offer. Deadline: June 30 *The Florissant Rotary Club Scholarship-This scholarship is in the amount of $2,000 paid for one year to the accredited college or university the student chooses to attend. While this scholarship has a minimum GPA requirement for eligibility, it is not primarily an academic scholarship. The criterion for selection does not consider financial need. Instead, it is targeted at students that have demonstrated excellence in service to their community. We encourage all students that are eligible and have an excellent record of community service to apply for this scholarship. Eligibility: Must live in or go to school in the service area of the Florissant Rotary Club. This area is defined as the geographic boundaries of the Hazelwood and Ferguson-Florissant school districts. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 Significant community service experience Cannot be related in any way to a current member of Honorary member of the Florissant Rotary Club. Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale Deadline: March 30 ADDITIONAL NEWS & OPPORTUNITIES College Goal Sunday-is a free service that will help students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The program provides hands-on assistance and specific advice regarding completion of the FAFSA. College Goal Sunday program will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the following area schools: Harris Stowe State University, Missouri Baptist University, Saint Louis University, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley/Meramec/Forest Park, University of Missouri-St. Louis and Washington University. Although the program is designed to provide one-on-one assistance in the completion of the FAFSA form, it also emphasizes the importance of a college education and informs students of the availability of a variety of college assistance resources. College/Scholarship Fair-The Jennings School District’s Infinite Scholars Program will host its seventh annual College/Scholarship Fair on Saturday February 28, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the St. Louis Airport Marriott Hotel. Students need to bring multiple copies of their transcripts and resumes as some colleges and universities will be admitting students and awarding scholarships on site. All Infinite Scholars events are free and open to the public. 2009 Money For College and FAFSA Completion Workshops-Do you need money for college? Are you wondering what scholarship and financial aid programs are available to you? Are you curious if you will be eligible, or if you will satisfy the awarding criteria?
