Reflection Essay
This essay is for my course instructor because I believe I should be grateful for
everything I learned through her wise counsel and helping me throughout this course.
I must say that I am glad that I decided to take this course. Learning how to write essays was
not only helpful for me during my coursework but also I know it will help me in my future
endeavors. Writing an essay without the necessary skills can lead to devastating results, such
as use of wrong content or writing a wrong paper altogether. This is the reason why I
appreciate taking this course. It was an interesting course because it involved reading various
materials such as articles and books which we were expected to analyze. It was through the
student learning outcomes that I was able to achieve the goal of this course which to me was
to have the capability of coming up with a good piece of literature work.
I believe with what I have been able to grasp from this course, I can use it to come up
with short stories or write articles, be it professionally or in the school magazine. Writing is
fun when you have an idea to develop on through writing, which is why am determined to
continue using what I learnt from this course for other courses or for my personal writing. As
evidence of my improvement in writing skills, the two projects that I wrote concerning the
iPhone5 and regarding my process of acquiring my scholarship are proof enough. Writing the
two essays really helped me improve my skills in my literature work.

Education is a never ending process. This is why writing can be used to enhance this
process. Through writing, one develops more skills or gets to know more about something.
This I believe is true because having written a research on iPhone5, I got to learn a lot.
Some of the learning outcomes that I believe I achieved are highlighted below. The
first outcome is critical thinking. This was a learning outcome that I got from this course
whereby I now can read an essay and critically analyze its context through evaluating its
theme, tone and moral concept. An essay is developed according to its type and purpose.
With the knowledge of this, I developed critical thinking skills which have helped me
understand an essay completely. I had to use the skills when writing the two essays
mentioned above that I wrote as coursework; I believe I am destined to apply this knowledge
acquired in my other classes.
I know through this course I am destined to raise my GPA in other courses I will take
to attain my degree. The second outcome is communication skills. This course has also
developed my communication skills as we know communication is both through writing and
verbally. I believe now I can communicate successfully because can develop various
communication tools such as memos, reports and different kind of essays such as the two
essays we were required to include in our final assignment. With the help of the various
course tools such as educational videos and the books we read in class, my communication
skills have improved greatly and I believe I am capable of expressing myself through writing.
Interpersonal skills are another learning outcome which I have developed. These
include listening skills whereby one has to listen carefully to get the important points. There
is also the skill of decision-making. A decision can be made effectively if you have an idea of
what to write about. An essay is developed through an idea, therefore if one has decisionmaking skills, they end up with a perfect essay. There is also an interpersonal skill – problemsolving, which one can apply from learning in this course. For you to solve an issue, one has

to understand the essay well. Then this enhances one to make a decision through what one
understood from the essay. Assertiveness skills also help a writer because they get to express
themselves through writing, which is their own right without violating the rights of others.
Interpersonal skills generally involve seeking approval from oneself through resolutions and
accepting criticism as it comes.
In addition to this, one gets to grow in writing through the criticism that always comes
with writing. Be it positive or negative, it is always advisable to take criticism positively. As
learnt in this class, if one gets to understand the point behind the criticism, one grows as a
writer; and besides, without criticism what good would your work be? Through the criticism
that I will get from the essay on iPhone5, I believe it will help me when I decide to write a
summary essay on a certain topic. Regarding the essay on my experience from earning the
scholarship and living in America, any criticism will help when I decide to write explanatory
and reflective essays.
In conclusion, I would like to appreciate the help I got from my fellow students
throughout the course. With their help I got to keep up with the course work and finish my
assessments successfully. My instructors were also a great inspiration throughout this course
and through them I got to complete it having tackled all the course material. I can now write a
complete and good essay of any kind and am proud of myself for that.
This course has helped me develop the necessity for my continued growth in writing,
which is why I would like to pursue writing in my career. What I have learnt in class is a
great start for writing as a career and in my continual development in my future undertakings.
