Community Sharing Program
Mission: SanDisk is committed to supporting programs and organizations that address the
needs of communities where our company has a significant presence. We strive to be exemplary
corporate citizens within the global community.
Our Community Sharing Committee acts as a facilitator to carry out this vision by making
donations to non-profit organizations and community groups whose efforts align with SanDisk’s
core values -- innovation, focus on execution, adaptability and agility, teamwork and integrity.
To maximize the results of our efforts, effective January 1, 2012, we will focus our program
support on the following areas:
K-12 Education - In and/or out of school programs with strong impact and special
emphasis on:
 Enhancing academic performance, technology skills and/or social development of
students from underserved communities.
 Curriculum development, innovative instruction methods, hands-on student projects and
infrastructure improvements to advance the quality of education.
 Providing teachers with professional development, materials and support.
 Enhancing the teaching and education of students.
 Programs utilizing the arts to enhance the quality of education provided.
Promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), specifically through:
 Curriculum development, innovative instruction methods, hands-on student projects and
infrastructure improvements to advance the quality of education.
 STEM programs targeting secondary, junior or community colleges, public and private
four-year colleges and universities, graduate and professional schools, and technical and
specialized schools. It also includes departmental grants and special project or research
grants.
Children’s/Youth Issues (Health and Welfare) – Programs providing services to children in
the communities where we have a significant presence that:
 Meet their maximum health potential through improved access to quality health care and
health promotion (such as public health, oral health, mental health, primary health care,
preventive medicine, community health, obstetrics and nursing).
 Demonstrate innovative and effective service delivery and community support for
disadvantaged children and families.
 Direct services for children who are victims of abuse or neglect.
 Hunger and Homeless assistance programs for children and their families.
POLICIES & GUIDELINES:
1. The average grant award is between $5,000 and $25,000.
2. Applicant must have a current tax-deductible IRS status under Section 501(c)(3) or be
operating with the fiscal sponsorship of a qualified charitable organization.

3. Funds will not be granted for:
 Endowments and/or annual fund drives;
 Coverage of operating deficits and/or debt service;
 Capital campaigns or funding that will be used for improvements to facilities;
 Individuals;
 Sports teams;
 Political and/or military organizations;
 Religious organizations whose program(s) do not serve a secular audience;
 Organizations that discriminate based on sex, sexual orientation, race, religion,
disabilities, or political views.
4. There is a limit of one grant application per calendar year regardless of whether previous
applications were approved or declined.
5. Returning grantees must submit a Final Report accounting for the use of previous
SanDisk grant funds. The Final Report may be submitted with the new application.
6. The interpretation, application and administration of the Community Sharing Program will
be determined by members of the SanDisk Program Committee whose
recommendations will be final.
7. At any time SanDisk may amend, suspend or discontinue the Community Sharing
Program. However, no such action shall affect the obligation of SanDisk made prior to
the date of amendment, suspension or discontinuance.
APPLICATION AND GRANTS PROCESS:
8. Please do not re-number the questions or alter the application. Do not delete any of this
application text to make more space for your text.
9. The total number of pages (not including attachments) should not exceed six pages.
10. In an effort to decrease paper usage, only electronic submissions will be
considered. Please keep your total submission to no more than 5 megabytes. Submit
one electronic copy to corporategrants@siliconvalleycf.org with subject title “SanDisk
Community Sharing.” A signed copy of the application and supporting documents must
be submitted as PDF file(s).
11. Applications sent directly to SanDisk will NOT be reviewed.
12. The first page of your electronic application PDF file must be the Grant Application
Cover Sheet (see next page). Please do not incorporate these two pages of guidelines
into your application PDF. An incomplete grant application will not be considered.
13. Applications are accepted quarterly and are due no later than 5:00 pm on:
 January 2nd (decisions communicated by March 15th)
 April 1st

 July 1st

14. If awarded a grant, payment will be made through the SanDisk Corporate Fund, a
corporate advised fund at Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

The proposal narrative should answer the questions below and should be no longer than 3 pages.
1. What is the organization’s mission statement?
2. Provide a brief history and description of your organization. Please include staff size and community
support (volunteers and collaborative partners).
3. What are the organization’s core programs and services?
4. Describe the program for which you are seeking funding.
5. Describe the need, problem and/or opportunity addressed by the program.
6. Describe the demographic population that will be served by the program. Please provide specifics,
e.g. number to be served, percentage of low-income or people of color, youth, etc.
7. Describe how you will use the grant funds. Detail the impact this grant will have on your program and
constituency served.
8. If awarded a grant, how will your organization sustain its services beyond the grant year? Please
include specific plans you have for future funding.
