This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving senior interested in a
community service related major at Bergen Community College (full-time or
part-time), as Mr. Amicucci was a police science instructor and a retired Chief
of Police.
Candidate must demonstrate school spirit and be a humanitarian.

Scholarship
Graduating senior, demonstrates service to others above self, positive
attitude and determination, committed to the betterment of the school and
community and exemplary citizenship. Submit 500 word essay describing
above.
Demonstration of character and determination in the face of a hardship or
other significant problem while successfully completing course of studies.
Submit essay describing your hardship.
Candidate must be of Italian heritage; be a student at THS for at least 2 years;
have a 3.0 confirmed GPA; be in good standing, not only academically but
behaviorally (not having been suspended, etc.); must not have a relative who
is an Italian Society Club member; a special emphasis on service to school and
community; partake in school activities and/or sports. A 500 word essay is
required explaining blood heritage, how family first came to the U.S., why you
are proud to be Italian, how Italians have impacted America.
Plan to pursue a career in the field of literature and/or journalism or those
who wish to teach in those fields. Statement of involvement in journalism;
theatre; leadership qualities; integrity; community service (i.e. Girl Scouts, Boy
Scouts, EMT’s, etc.); love of reading and writing. Additionally, an original
writing sample is required. Submit statement of involvement and writing
sample (see attachment).

Memorial Scholarship
Kate was a 1998 graduate of Tenafly High School. The Kathryn Anne Lanz Memorial Scholarship is
an annual scholarship, established in 2005, at her request.
Brief Description of the Qualifications
This scholarship is presented annually to a graduating senior who demonstrates academic desires in
journalism and/or literature or a desire to pursue a teaching career in those fields. The applicant must show a
passion for the written and/or spoken word as reflected in school course work and involvement in writing,
particularly creative writing, as part of the co-curricular and extra-curricular program. Lastly, the applicant must
exhibit the qualities of integrity, leadership and responsibility, which were values Kate possessed and sought in
others.
