In order for you to make a start on task 4 Task 4: Describe how the travel and tourism industry has developed in the
Tour Operator and Travel Agency sectors (P4).
Over the Christmas holidays you are going to make a start on it by completing
the following task – this makes up half of the task – the rest of which will be
completed after the holidays. You have your green exercise books to help
you – but remember DO NOT COPY this word for word – take key points and
put them into your own words. You can also use the internet to find extra
examples/research. In order to pass the task you MUST include everything in
the bullet points – make sure you mention each point!!!
Your line manager has asked you to demonstrate to the student, how the
travel and tourism industry has developed. Prepare a professional display for
the travel shop, using both pictures and writing, which covers the following
points:

Development of package holidays (early developments e.g. Thomas
Cook; growth of mass market; specialist holidays e.g. all inclusive)

Development of travel agents (growth of multiples; products and
services offered)

Horizontal and vertical integration (horizontal examples e.g. mergers
between 2 travel agents; vertical examples e.g. mergers of airlines and
tour operators; reasons for integration)
As this is for a display I suggest you produce these in a poster format
(preferably on the computer) – One A4 page per bullet point (so you should
come to your first lesson back from Christmas with 3 pieces of A4.) As a
poster it should be colourful, have images, and not be over complicated!!!
