A Template or Guide for your Persuasive Speech Outline
A. INTRODUCTION
Tells your audience what you are going to tell them and establish the foundation for
your speech. A good Introduction 'draws the map' for the journey. Just like your Informative
Speech, a Persuasive Speech, an Introduction consists of:
1. Attention-Getter:
Short, touching video clip on a true child abuse story
2. Bond: Link-to Audience:
Preventing child abuse is something I feel strongly about. I hope to gain the
support of my audience when it comes to changing children’s lives.
3. "Credentials" of Speaker (Credibility):
Over the past two months, I’ve been researching child abuse and viewing
short video clips online. I also looked into different prevention methods using
resources such as online prevention programs.
4. Destination / Objective Sentence:
My Goals today are to persuade my audience why it’s important to look for
child abuse, how they could get involved, and when to take action.
5. Explain your Map to your Destination: Speech Preview:
Today I will persuade you how it’s important to look for child abuse, how you
could get involved, and when to take action.
Transition: Let’s begin today by talking about why it is important to prevent
child abuse.
B. BODY of your Speech
Saving the life of a child
1. Main Point #1
A. Why It’s important to look for signs of child abuse
-The children can’t always speak for themselves, so they need your help to
speak up for them
Fact: Child abuse is a problem that often goes undetected because of the lack
of proof. If we are more aware of the signs, we may be able to save a child’s
life.
Transition: Knowing the signs brings us to the next point of getting involved.
2. Main Point #2
A. Persuade you to get involved
-If you are aware of the signs of child abuse, and recognize them with a child,
you are already involved.
-when to get involved vs. when to not get involved

Example: There may be a child that is screaming for your help. It may be
easier to ignore it, but becoming involved in a situation like this could be a
life-changing decision for a child.
Give Examples, Supporting Facts, Data (Cite source or sources)
Restate the Point
Transition: Create a linking statement to Point 3
3. Main Point #3
A. Taking Action
-Many people may recognize signs of child abuse, but don’t know how to
come forward and report it. They may be afraid to come forward, but I will
talk about when it’s important to come forward.
Example: A little girl in the same apartment building seems to always be
screaming. It’s important to use your own judgment by looking at the
frequency that it is happening because it could be an example of physical
abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect.
Transition: These three sequences can save the lives of so many children.
C. CONCLUSION
1. Restate thesis, argument or proposition
Today I persuaded you why it’s important to recognize the signs the signs of
child abuse, why you should become involved, and when to take action.
I hope that I helped you to create an awareness of child abuse so we can save the
lives of so many children.
3. Call-to-Action: I encourage you to become involved and take action if you ever
come across signs of child abuse.
