Senior Project Oral Presentation
Requirements, Task Analysis, and Preparation
Total time: 8-12 minutes Visual Aid: Maximum 2 minutes without speaking
Remember, normal speech is approximately 140-160 words per minute so your speech
should be 1400-1600 words – to ensure your speech will be the proper length, err on the
long side as most speakers have a tendency to speed up when they are nervous.

3. Write brief stage directions on the cards as needed. Example: “Show your photos while
explaining steps in making acrylic masks”.

Part 8: Question and Answer Period
Following your presentation, your five judges will have the opportunity to ask you
questions. This usually takes about 5 minutes. Of course there is no way to be certain
what the judges will ask you but consider the following questions and think about your
answers in advance so you ill be clear-headed, confident, and ready for anything.
1. What would a judge listening to your speech want to know?
2. What would you like people to ask?
3. What unusual qualities does your project have that may spark interest?
4. What written assignment was most valuable and why?
5. What controversial topics, if any, did you discuss?
6. Why did you choose this topic?
7. Who helped you?
8. How did you finance it?
9. How much time did you spend on your project?
10. Does this project double as credit for another class? Will you go into this career?
