Managing Change and Leadership Resit
Second attempt 2011-2012 (September and January intake)
Academic Essay (100%)
Critically explore the work of Kurt Lewin and provide an analysis of his influence on
the field of change management.
Word limit: 2500
Guidelines:
A good answer should clearly identify a deeper understanding of the nature of
organisational change and Kurt Lewin’s work and influence. The essay must provide
a critical analysis and exploration of the issues under consideration – clearly linking
academic theories and concepts to the question provided. The assessment must be
supported by academic sources, theories and concepts. Furthermore, the essay
must comply with the academic essay format and the Harvard referencing
guidelines. The essay must not be descriptive in nature, but should provide evidence
of a critical understanding of the issues under consideration. There is no correct
number of academic references to be utilised, as the student must draw on as many
references required in order to provide a high quality answer. However, a minimum
of 25 academic sources are expected, and a majority of these should be current,
internationally, peer reviewed articles (This is not to say that older, seminal work
should not be referred to). Sources such as Wikipedia and the like are not
acceptable for this assessment. Sources only available online should also be
avoided.
Purpose (40%)
The answer makes an interpretation of the question and in relation to this develops a
coherent, connected and critical line of argument. The answer sticks to the point.
Instructions in the question are carried out (i.e. discuss underpinning concepts using
contemporary examples) (L0s 1, 2 & 3).
Theoretical understanding (25%)
Concepts, theories, facts, examples and research evidence are relevant and
selected to back-up and illustrate what is being presented (i.e. the arguments and
interpretation) (L0s 1, 2 & 3).
Critical understanding (25%)
Clear evidence of a critical understanding of the issues under consideration (L0s 1, 2
& 3).
Presentation (10%)
Arguments and evidence are coherently presented in formal academic essay format.
Acknowledgement of sources and citation in Harvard style, legible, length, clarity,
and written English (e.g. grammar and spelling).
Assessment deadline: 17th August, 14.00 – ONLINE SUBMISSIONS ONLY

Regulations on Resits:
You MUST attempt the first sit of all your assessments. If you do not do so you will
not be allowed a resit of the module. If the module is core on the award you will
therefore fail the award.
In essence, students who fail to submit any assessment for a module will be given a
Grade Point N (Fail due to non-submission) for that module and they will not be
allowed a further attempt at that module. This regulation applies to all
undergraduate and postgraduate awards and all levels.
This change now means that students will only be allowed to attempt referrals once
and only IF they have made an attempt at the assessment(s) on the first occasion
unless a claim for Extenuating Circumstances has been successful.
The regulation change has been incorporated into the University’s published
academic regulations available on the website at the following links.
