THE CHRYSALIDS ESSAY This is the part many people dread, the supported opinion essay. We’re going to go very slowly through this process. The classes will be busy and my time will be divided so make sure that is you have a question, you find time to ask it. If your question does not get answered in class, come and see me at lunch or in the morning. I want to help you with this, but you need to ask. A supported opinion essay means just that, you need to support your opinion. You essay will make direct references to the text, using quotations in the correct MLA format. We will go over how to add quotes and cite them properly. Here is the essay process. Developing your topic: 1. 2. 3. 4. You will get a handout all about this in class. Possible Topics (General) Differences Church and State Gender Roles Change and fear of change Bravery Fear Hope and Despair Conflict between generations Oppression Anything else you can think of Structure of the Essay The essay is to be 5 paragraphs: an introduction, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion. The introduction includes the thesis of the essay. Each supporting quotation from the book must be documented.
