ReflectionLetter | Due w/ RBA Writing, like anything, is a craft that we cannot completely understand or learn in one semester of college. I always keep this in mind when I grade your work, and it is also for this reason that I assign the Reflection Letter as part of your final RBA. The goal of this letter is to articulate how you understand yourself as a scholar/thinker/writer, and what your RBA demonstrates about your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. The Reflection Letter should answer the following questions: o How do you see yourself as a scholar/thinker/writer? o How are your strengths as a writer demonstrated in the RBA? o In which areas of writing are you still working to improve (use your RBA as evidence)? o Discuss your perceived audience and purpose of the essay you produced. o Explain the rhetorical choices you made and the writing process you followed – including how you conducted research – while writing the paper. o Describe how you responded to peer, instructor, and/or Composition Commons consultant feedback, as well as self-assessments, as you revised your work. o Finally, spend some time discussing how you think writing might continue to impact your life, which can include your college career and your life after college. Technicalities: The Reflection Letter should be no longer than 3 pages long and no shorter than 2. There should be a unifying thesis for this essay – a claim that connects how you see yourself as a scholar/thinker/writer and how these qualities can be seen in your writing. You need to title this piece. You need to include page numbers. You need to follow the standard MLA format. Most Important Statement on this Entire Sheet The Reflection Letter is your way of explaining what you understand about your writing process. Often we can articulate what we can and can’t do as writers better than actually doing those things in our writing. This is your opportunity to do so. I cannot say it enough – I value this piece because it helps me to understand how you understand your own abilities as a writer – if you can identify your strengths and weaknesses than you are on your way to being an excellent writer. That being said, use this letter as a way to demonstrate how well you know your own writing process.
