JOB DESCRIPTION SECTION 1 DIRECTORATE: Leisure Services POST NO: SECTION: Leisure Services Development GRADE: POST TITLE: Beach Patrol Officer RESPONSIBLE TO: Waterfront & Venue Manager LOCATION: Fleetwood & Cleveleys Waterfront 7 RESPONSIBLE FOR: Beach Patrol Assistants SECTION 2 OVERALL JOB PURPOSE: To manage the efficient and effective day to day operation of the Beach Patrol service on Fleetwood and Cleveleys Waterfront, ensuring the highest levels of customer care, safety and welfare of the users. SECTION 3 KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. To supervise and organise the Beach Patrol team to meet the operational requirements of the service. 2. To develop and deliver a high quality customer experience that will present a positive image of the section. 3. To coordinate and provide induction and in-service training in accordance with normal operating procedures and or identified requirements of the service. 4. Initiate improvement to working practices and processes through a systems thinking approach. 5. Ensure that communication is effective and that the decision making process is transparent. To lead and work as part of the Beach Patrol team. 6. 7. To develop and maintain effective working relationships with other sections of the Waterfront & Venue team. JOB DESCRIPTION SECTION 3 KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 8. 9. Demonstrate good leadership characteristics at all times and take responsibility for the development of an effective team. To be responsible for managing and monitoring budgets associated with the Beach Patrol service. 10. To produce reports that detail appropriate user information and record incidents etc 11. To respond to and ensure that the team are working in accordance with all legislative requirements associated with the operation including beach risk assessments and operating procedures. 12. To liaise with all appropriate emergency services as and when required. 13. To support the Waterfront & Venue Manager in the development of the section. 14. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as may be directed PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: To maintain a smart appearance and to work enthusiastically in the promotion of the public image of the Borough in the areas of responsibility outlined above and to be of maximum assistance to the general public wherever the opportunity arises. SECTION 4 SPECIAL CONDITIONS (e.g. week-end work, shift allowance, car/telephone allowance) As the Waterfront section delivers a seven-day service the salary is inclusive of weekend and evening work. Overtime will only be paid once 48 hours (pro-rata for part time staff) has been worked in the working week (Monday – Sunday). Overtime is payable at plain time. The provision of a mobile telephone for work purposes only. The postholder will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau. The council operates a strict non-smoking policy. The post is seasonal initially working weekends only from 29 May 2010 and then fulltime from 3 July until 5 September 2010. The postholder will be expected: To adopt a flexible approach to changing patterns of work and undertake such other duties as are consistent with the job purpose and grade of post.
