Information Systems Specialist, Senior

Kind of work

Under general supervision, performs a variety of computer-related tasks which includes software support and training, data processing of information, analyzing computer-related problems with staff and supervisors, and working with the other information systems staff in the analysis of software applications; and performs related work as assigned.

Examples of work (illustrative only)

Assist in determining agency training needs for staff and provides some training to new staff on network functions and procedures.

Design and prepare various databases, graphs, charts, presentations and spreadsheets using a variety of software.

Acts as a resource for agency staff in the areas of Internet use, and hardware and software issues.

Creates and tests new processes and procedures for effectiveness and ease of use in software applications by computer users.

Assists staff members with LAN issues such as file conversion, document generation and creation and security issues.

Coordinates the design of word processing documents for agency staff.

Assist in the review of potential software systems for agency applications.

Assist in conducting an internal needs analysis and research computer systems for information requested by agency staff.

Sets up new codes for new programs being put into the computer system.

Orients new employees on completion of reports for computer.

Meets with staff members to review errors in their reports and methods of correction.

May spend a small portion of time entering data into the system.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required

Knowledge of computer hardware and software terminology and of commercial software products.

Knowledge of computer directory structure and of networks and their functionality.

Knowledge of state computer software systems.

Knowledge of office procedures, practices and equipment.

Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in data preparation and data entry sufficient to transcribe data into a form suitable for computer processing.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers and supervisory staff.

Ability to reduce complex assignments to an orderly system of procedures.

Ability to detect hardware and software malfunctions and to diagnose problems.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and procedures as applied to computer operation and data processing.

Ability to train staff in a structured format.

Minimum qualifications of education and experience

High school diploma, or the equivalent, and two years of experience in the following areas:

1. Experience with database, spreadsheet and word processing software;

2. Experience diagnosing minor software and hardware problems;

3. Training and instructing users in system use and/or the use of application software and/or network functions and procedures; and

4. Computer system evaluation, including software system review and application.

OR

Completion of two years of study at an accredited two or four year college or similar institution with an emphasis in computer science, computer software/hardware technology, computer information management or a related field. Qualified candidates may substitute work experience for education on a year for year basis.

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

Kind of work

An employee in this class provides mental health services for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, behavioral and emotional disorders in individuals, families and groups. Duties include: conducting individual, family and group counseling and psychotherapy to children and adults to resolve/correct psychological problems or dysfunctions; conducting couples counseling; consulting with other human service professionals to determine the need or obtain guidance in the psychological study of specific clients; observing clients to obtain neuropsychological state or pathological condition, prepares written reports and makes recommendations on the basis of the findings and performs related work. The work is performed under the general direction of assigned staff.

Examples of work (illustrative only)

Provides assessment and prepares social histories of individuals and families to identify emotional, social and environmental strengths and problems related to their diagnosis, treatment and/or life situation.

Completes and reviews diagnostic and educational assessment information for adults or children for whom mental health or chronic mental health services have been requested to determine eligibility; interprets programs and policies/regulations to clients; plans appropriate mental health or chronic mental health case management services; and monitors case plans and goals.

Provides individual and/or group counseling services to families, individuals, and couples in therapeutic and crisis situations meeting mutually agreed upon time/session goals established by the worker and client.

Provides case consultation to mental health or chronic mental health staff; assists in case management service delivery for clients whose mental health needs are especially challenging to assess and address, and interprets social and emotional factors to other resources involved in treatment of clients.

Oversees individual treatment plans and individual mental health service delivery, including those provided by the mental health or chronic mental health case manager and provides individual clinical oversight for services requiring licensed clinical social work credentials.

Provides clinical supervision for social workers pursuing clinical social work licensure, and provides work direction, technical guidance and case consultation for social workers and paraprofessionals performing social work functions individually or as part of a team.

Maintains accurate and timely case records and documentation in accordance with federal, state, local, departmental and professional guidelines.

Demonstrates punctual and reliable attendance in accordance with designated work schedule.

Complies with applicable safety rules, laws and practices; uses proper safety equipment and procedures in all operations.

Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required

Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems.

Considerable knowledge of a wide range of behavior and psychosocial problems and their diagnosis and treatment.

Considerable knowledge of individual and group behavior, family and group dynamics, and a wide range of counseling and intervention techniques.

Considerable knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of social work case management as they apply to the treatment of major behavior problems.

Knowledge of the causative factors leading to social maladjustment.

Knowledge of the social-economic factors, which promote stable family life and an understanding of the elements, which affect family security.

Knowledge of governmental and private organizations, community resources, laws, regulations and policies which govern programs, methods and principles of casework supervision and training.

Skill in establishing rapport with clients and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client problems.

Skill in analyzing complex situations, and identifying and implementing needed improvements.

Skill in prioritizing multiple assignments and effectively managing time to accomplish work goals.

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written presentations to a wide variety of audiences.

Ability to monitor, train and instruct subordinate social workers, students or interns.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of clients and their families, as well as civic, legal, medical, law enforcement, social and religious organizations, coworkers and the public.

Minimum qualifications of education and experience

A master’s degree in social work from an accredited college/university and current licensure as an independent clinical social worker (LICSW) in the s tate of Minnesota. Positions may also require the possession of a valid driver’s license.
