Throughout Jack London’s novel The Call of the Wild, Buck’s horrific actions prove that he is a bully. Indeed London states: “In fact, his (Buck’s) conduct approached that of a bully, and he was given to swaggering up and down...” (London). Buck picks on the small and defenseless for sport: chipmunks and squirrels, none are too small for Buck to intimidate. Buck also encourages others to join in and pick on others. He even singles out one dog and subjects it to the mercy of the pack. Lastly, Buck picks (preys upon) on the elderly and the weak. Typical targets of Buck’s range from an elderly wounded moose and a blind bear. None were safe from the dominant primordial bully.
