Activity: Write a love poem from the point-of-view of a character from the novel,
using Neruda’s poem as a model. Your poem should include details from the text
that are indicative of the relationship.
Directions
1. Choose a pair and decide who will write and receive the poem.
2. Decide what type of love the relationship represents. Is it maternal? Physical?
Spiritual? Etc.
3. Revisit the text to better represent the character’s point of view.
4. Write the love poem, using as many details as you can.
5. Be prepared to share.
