Assignment – Lewis and Clark were sent with the primary objective of finding the
Northwest Passage- a waterway flowing across the continent and connecting with
the Pacific Ocean. They discovered to their disappointment that such a waterway
does not exist. The Corps of Discovery however discovered countless wildlife,
vegetation and geographic landforms. They also interacted and observed the
customs of over 50 tribes.
1. Part of Journey Journal Entry- journal written in first person
giving a detailed account of the conditions, sights, problems,
discoveries, and daily life of that particular part of journey.
The journal is to be one page.
2. Wildlife- create two flyers complete with image and
description of the animal they discovered (place in own words)
3. Vegetation- create two flyers complete with image and
description of the vegetation they discovered(place in own
words)
4. Native American Essay- Information essay giving a detailed
account of time spent with a Native American Tribe. They came
in contact with over 50- choose one and write a detailed essay on
the experiences had by Lewis and Clark during their time with the
chosen tribe.
5. Create a cover for your Lewis and Clark Portfolio- Using clip
Art, and or images create a cover page. The page should include
the group members, class period, and date.

Most of the project will be done in school. Some final adjustments will have to be made
at home. All of the papers should be bound together for submission – all entries will be
placed in a binder to form a portfolio regarding the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Each
student will have certain responsibilities regarding the project. They will be held
accountable for ½ the project. Bring any devices needed to save research so work can be
completed at home. Printing work on the due date will not be permitted
