Nick Carraway:
-Judges people; uncomfortable with big parties; a very observant, quiet, individual;
fought in the war; lives in West Egg; cousin of Daisy; went to New Haven College
with Tom; admires and neighbor of Gatsby; studying to be in the bond business;
grew up in the Midwest; considered to be an outsider; infatuated with Jordan Baker.
-No physical description. The narrator of the story. Lack of description could be
because he is physically unordinary.

Jay Gatsby:
-Alluring attitude, mysterious; thinks before he speaks—careful with his words;
some would consider to be shy—throws lavish parties but does not really socialize
with guests; possibly went to Oxford; lots of rumors are spread about him; fought in
WWI; had a previous relationship with Daisy; fortune earned through illegal
activities; knows a lot of people from everyone; lives in West Egg; neighbor of Nick
Carraway.
-solid build; in his early 30’s; young and vibrant look.

Tom Buchanan:
-Cocky, arrogant; cheating on wife, Daisy; having an affair with Myrtle Wilson;
punched Myrtle Wilson and broke nose because she antagonized him; went to
college with Nick; played football; old money; lives in East Egg; racist and sexist;
pushes around people who are below social class; lies as to why he cannot divorce
Daisy.
-A hulking physical specimen. Large and muscular. See page 7 for physical
description.
-“Im stronger and more than a man then you are” attitude according to Nick. See
page 6.
