Thank you Freetown Family for the gifts,
expressions of love and encouragement, many
cards, the use of the annex, and for attending my
90th birthday celebration. What a loving church
here at Freetown.
Thank you again.
In Christian love, Blanche and her family
“I Never Met the Man”
Today we will examine one of my favorite
disciples, a man who never met Jesus in person but
who came to faith as a result of the mission work
done by the apostle Paul. Luke was a physician, an
honored role in the first century as well as today.
Physicians were usually well educated and
respected. In many ways they were scientists,
learning what herbs and oils healed and those that
harmed. As today, physicians were hard to fool.
That is what makes the conversion of Luke such an
interesting story. We will see that Luke was no fool
and took great pains to get the facts right when it
came to the life of Jesus and the history of the early
church. We are indebted to Luke, as he wrote more
of the New Testament (in terms of volume) than
any other writer. The history he records still guides
us today. This morning we will see Jesus through
the eyes of Luke, the physician.
There are so many good workers in this
church who do good work, often times behind the
scenes. George Spitzer and Brian Petty spend
many hours each week voluntarily cleaning and
maintaining the building. Countless volunteers
prepare and plan each week to teach our children’s
Bible classes. That ministry is now headed by Pam
Ramsey, another great servant of the church here.
Finally, have you noticed how blessed we are with
great teachers, from Brandon Holt, George and
Brian, Mike Haynes and others. This is a great
church to be a part of!
“Back to Bible School” is coming on
Sunday, September 16. Each of our Bible classes
will have a target goal. The children’s class that
reaches the highest percentage of attendance will
receive a hamburger/hot dog dinner followed by a
movie. The adult classes will have a goal as well
and next week I will tell you what the adult class
with the best attendance will win. Make plans now
to be here on September 16 in Bible class.
In Christ,
David
