Social Studies Fair Topic Information The Avoyelles Parish Library System can help with Social Studies Fair Project research. Listed below are some topics found in our vertical files – information collected from newspapers, magazines, brochures, and pamphlets. These are stored in the Louisiana Room. These files may be a good beginning point for research or to find a topic of interest to the student. Information or ideas for other topics may be found in the non-fiction section of the library, on one of the databases or through one of the links found at our public access computers. It is very important to remember: The student should choose a topic of interest to him or her. The student should limit a topic to one that can be discussed with thoroughness within a time limitation of 3 minutes. Students should use at least 3 sources – including magazines, newspapers, books, Internet sources, and possibly personal interviews. A complete social studies project must include a written research paper, a free-standing project board, and a prepared oral presentation. Information on the project board usually includes but is not limited to pictures, graphs, statistics, or maps.
