Revision Plan:
In order to develop a revision plan that makes sense, you must read your peer review
and all of my comments on your Webtext, prospectus, blogs, topic definition statement,
etc.
For the following, use the revision_plan_htm document you created today and linked on
your portfolio page.
Strategies for Revising/Expanding
***First, is there any MAJOR revision you need to do? If I told you that your topic was
too broad, you need to do a total outline overhaul.
I: Examine the main thesis statement for the current Webtext. Drawing on the main
thesis statement, what do you expect your audience to do, say, or think after reading
your piece? Be specific.
Especially the psychoactive stimulants will be used to explain the psychoactive
drugs because of its easy accessibility. <<< “revise this so that it is a thesis
statement, and not a purpose statement”
In the webtext, Thesis was not clearly mentioned. Even though, the working thesis was
used separately.
“The effects of psychoactive stimulants are characterized by the duration of
dosing, overdosing, and withdrawal symptoms”.
The thesis mention once again in the introduction section before the purpose sentences
were introduced.
II: Now examine all of the current sections of your Webtext, and identify the topic
sentences for those sections. Drawing on the topic sentences for those sections, does
each section support the main thesis? In other words, will your current content illicit the
response from your audience that you hope it will? Why or why not?

Thesis:
The effects of psychoactive stimulants are characterized by the duration of
dosing, overdosing, and withdrawal symptoms.
Caffeine
Shor-term effect
Many people use the stimulating effects of caffeine as energy booster. However,
unpleasant side-effect also may be caused.
Long-term effect
However, the caffeine does not meet criteria used by the American Psychiatric
Association as an addictive substance:
Overdosing
“Caffeinism” refers to overindulgence in caffeine (King, 2008, p234)”. It can be
happened to person who drinks five or more coffee in a day (minimum 500mg).
Withdrawal symptom
Usually very mild and the symptoms disappear after several days.
Conclusion
The moderate consumption of the caffeine can help mentally and physically
positive effect on human body. However, the overindulged form of consumption like
Caffeinism can cause negative effect on human body. Therefore, the three or five cups
of coffee a day will be the appropriate limit for the healthy life.
Jung H Ahn 3
The topics in each section illicitly follow the thesis. However, in the “Drugs
and Neurotransmitters” section, clear intention was not given for introducing background
knowledge. Smooth transition from the previous section to this section has to be added.
III: In your 1500- 1800 Webtext, you will be revising your 1000 – 1250 AND expanding
on current sections or adding new sections. In order to figure out how to do this,
respond to the following. Be sure to consider the content of your podcast script when
responding to the following:
●
What do I need more of to support my current/new ideas and how do I intend to
do it? Use your annotated research to guide you here. Skim abstracts,
introductions, Google tag clouds and subject categories for new keywords or
phrases that might lead to a fruitful search and provide the information you need.
Tell me what the new information is.
●
Would another example help me make my current/new points more clear? Use
your annotated research to guide you here. Skim abstracts, introductions, and
Google tag clouds and subject categories for new keywords or phrases that
might lead to a fruitful search and provide the information you need. Tell me
what the new information is.
http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/index.html Office of National Drug Control
Policy (O.N.D.C.P)
Office of National Drug Control Policy (O.N.D.C.P) is to establish policies, priorities, and
objectives for the Nation's drug control program. The trustworthy statistics and data
were posted and lively discussed in the view of control. Therefore, the amphetamine
and cocaine will be researched with their point of view to explain harmful effect on
human body.
Most of the research paper and document were related and referred to NIDA because
NIDA support huge fund and interests for researchers who are working in medicine to
prove the effect of the drug and set the guideline for government. Many textbook and
research paper used their data
●
What experts exist in the field of my topic? Have I referred to any of them? You
are expected to know who the experts are. By experts, I mean nationally or
globally recognized names in the field, not just an author of a text.
Jung H Ahn 4
Nutritionist, drug therapist, and drug agency who work for government department like
National Institute on Drug Abuse (N.I.D.A) or Office of National Drug Control Policy
(O.N.D.C.P) are the experts for this issues.
●
Have I or will I effectively used statistics in comparison with other statistics? Do I
need to do this?
The statistics and the data will be added. A lot of statistics were used in each
psychoactive drug, which will be added in the future work.
●
Do any of my current/future terms need to be defined for my readers? You
should be using anchor text only for this.
In the Drugs and Neurotransmitters, agonist and antagonist were used as plain text.
More information will be added. When a new section of drug was explained, more
anchor texts will be used if those were necessary.
V: For the visuals in your Webtext, ask yourself
●
Do my visuals represent the content of my text, or have I added them just
because I was supposed to, and do I have meaningful captions for the images?
Explain.
When the overdosing of caffeine was explained, skull and crossbones shaped of
whip cream on a cup of coffee image was used to show the wanted side effect might
be caused by indulging consumption of coffee even though caffeine was not
technically addictive drug.
I will use black wall image when I will explain the cocaine to give a harmful image of
cocaine.
●
Are my color choices relevant to my topic? Why or why not?
The colors of background will be very important in main sections because the
color of background will give different impression and meaning to audiences. For
example, the caffeine is not categorized as addictive drug, and its side effect is
mild. Therefore, green color was used not to give any harmful impression to the
Jung H Ahn 5
audiences. However, black color will be used for the background of cocaine to
give a bad impression to audience.
● Are my color choices reader friendly? Why or why not?
After I divide introduction section and main sections, the color of the introduction section
will be changed to beige to give a neutral impression to audiences. The text color will be
same as black because the beige and black will be in a good contrast.
VI: Examine the overall structure of your Webtext and ask
●
Have I effectively broken up my text with appropriate headings reflecting the
content of each?
List form of wording were used everywhere. Those will be edited as form of
sentences.
List form of wording was interfering to identify the heading of section.
The headings of each section were appropriate to reflect contents.
●
Have I written a preliminary conclusion that does more than summarize my
webtext or repeat the introduction? Explain.
Conclusion section in 1250 webtext summarizes the psychoactive drug, caffeine.
Nicotine, cocaine and amphetamine will be added. Respectively, conclusion
section will be added with adding each conclusion of psychoactive drug. Whole
research conclusion will be included after most of sections are completed.
Once you have addressed those places, you will have made your text more coherent,
more developed and probably contributed substantially to the word count required by
the assignment. You are expected to email a complete (that includes the visual rhetoric
homework) revision plan to me by Sunday (3/13) @midnight.

Applying the rhetorical devices to visuals.
Listen to this podcast, Composing for Different Types of Media
Read the material from Purdue OWL's Visual Rhetoric: Color tutorial
***Refer to the “Microsoft Word Workshop” in the casebook, pp. 23 – 29
a. Describe what you learned from this podcast.
The usage of the color for rhetorical purpose was explained to select an appropriate
background color and text. This color choice would be very helpful to use egos, logos
and pathos via the webtext.
b. Now that you know a bit about visual rhetoric, decide if the colors you
have chosen for your Webtext are appropriate. Respond to these
questions about your Webtext:
i. Does the combination of colors used lend itself to easy
reading, either on-screen or on paper?
Now, black text and green background color were used on the screen. Green color was
included in light colors. Black color was included in dark colors. Therefore, the contrast
between the black and green was considered as a good combination.

This web site was also referred to understand more.
Jung H Ahn 7
\ii. Are the cultural/content/social associations, if any,
accompanying the colors appropriate?
I will use black color background and white text for cocaine section because the black
color can be used to express implicitly death. For example, white color skull and cross
bones in black flag, which known for symbols of the pirate, was originally associated
with death for Europeans cultures. Cocaine is one of the strongest drugs which could
lead dead. There is no ADA approved cure for cocaine abusing. The best cure for
cocaine is never dosing cocaine. Therefore, I would like to give a strong impression
where the cocaine will be explained in the webtext.
Defend your response with evidence from both the linked reading and the
podcasts.
b. What about the images in your webtext? Do they illustrate the written
text, or are they just random images dropped into the text in order to
earn the points? Defend your response, drawing examples from both
the linked reading and the podcasts.
This picture will be used to describe how badly people can be addicted with nicotine.
In the previous webtext, captions were not used to introduce pictures. Caption will be
added with each picture later.
d. Are your anchor texts rhetorically appropriate? In other words, do the
links offer information that in some way supports what you are saying in
your Webtext? Defend your response.
An Antagonist is a drug that blocks a neurotransmitter’s effect. For example,
drugs used to treat schizophrenia interfere with the activity of dopamine (King, 2008,
p76). Are you expanding on these terms by adding more information? If not, the
definition of these terms better served by anchor text
Jung H Ahn 8
From the above comment, the two terms, agonist and antagonist, will be
explained with more detail information. I will add more anchor texts by adding more
contents in the main section if the terms are needed to be explained before the contents
were extended.
