GEOGRAPHY OF FOOD: THE FINAL EXAM
Logistics:
1)Exam is Thursday, Dec 16 at 7:30 am.
2) Exam is in class. Bring 2 blue books and a stack of pens.
3) Exam is cumulative. Anything we've covered all term is fair game.
3) There will be three sections:
a) Multiple Choice: about 20 questions
b) Short Essay: you will choose one out of four questions to answer.
c) Long Essay: you will choose one out of four questions to answer.
4) Open book, open note. If you can print it, you can use it.
a) I do NOT recommend bringing stacks of paper, though---you will not have
enough time to sift through lots of texts and notes.
b) I DO recommend making yourself a concise precis of each reading, and
putting your notes in a binder so that you don't have papers flying
everywhere during the exam.
Rules:
1) NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES PERMITTED
a) f I see you with anything that has a screen, I will throw you out of the exam
and you fail. No exceptions.
2) NO MAKE UPS
a) You snooze, you lose. Miss the exam, and you take a zero on the final.
b) Car trouble is not a valid excuse. Make sure your car works the night
before, and have a bus schedule on hand.
3) NO TIME EXTENSIONS
a) If you come late, you lose time to write.
b) After the first exam leaves the room, I can’t give any more exams out for
any reason. You take a zero.
4) NO EXCEPTIONS
a) In order to be fair to everyone, I can’t make any exceptions for any reason.
5) NO EXCUSES
a) The syllabus told you to declare all disabilities by September 15. I have
not received any declarations of disability from Disability Services.
b) It is now too late to claim learning disabilities, psychiatric disorders,
health problems, family issues, or anything else. You must take the exam
when it is given.
A FINAL PLEA:
PLEASE DO NOT COME TO ME AND ASK ME TO CHANGE YOUR GRADE AFTER
THE FINAL.
Every year, students who have done poorly on the final come to me with tales of
woe. None of them took the time to inform me of their problems before hand, get
help during office hours, or meet with the TA. Yet, once they have failed, they come
asking me "if there's something we can do" to remedy the F on the grade sheet.
THE ANSWER IS NO. If you needed this class to graduate, you knew that in
September. I sincerely wish you'd come to me then and asked for support, because I
would have been happy to give you a ton of time, energy, and ideas.
There are many people in this course who have put their hearts and souls into their
work. There are many people who struggled, who put in hours with me making
sure they understood things, and who worked their brains out to come to class
prepared each week. Their work deserves the honor and respect of a fair grade.
IN ORDER TO BE FAIR TO THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE WORKED HARD IN THIS
COURSE, I CAN NOT CHANGE FAILING GRADES AFTER THE FINAL.
