SHRM Case Competition Chairperson
Job purpose
The SHRM Case Competition Chairperson organizes and leads a team of 2-6 HR students to
compete in the annual SHRM Case Competition. During the Fall and Winter quarter, the SHRM
Case Competition Chairperson will meet with their team at least once a week to work on a Case
Study. While working on the weekly case study, the SHRM Case Competition Chairperson will
help his/her team to become more knowledgeable on best HR laws and practices and improve
presentation, researching and editing skills.
Duties and responsibilities
The SHRM Case Competition Chairperson will be working with the Cal Poly PIHRA Executive
Board, Club Advisor, and its affiliated organizations to ensure the goals of the current year is
accomplished.
The SHRM Case Competition Chairperson is responsible for:
SHRM Case Competition
 Recruit participants for SHRM Case Competition.
 Participate in weekly case studies with SHRM team.
 Provide tools and resources to enhance SHRM team’s HR knowledge, presentation,
researching and editing skills.
 Present case study to SHRM Case Competition Advisor every week.
 Compete in SHRM Case Competition.
 Register for the SHRM Case Competition
 Plan and book all travel and hotel needs
CPP PIHRA
 Participate in General Meetings and Executive Board Meetings.
 Participate in all CPP PIHRA’s socials and fundraising events.
 Assist with SHRM Merit Award.
 Assist with Evening with Industry.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications in order to be considered for this
position:
Education
 Enrollment at Cal Poly Pomona as a part-time or full-time student with freshmen,
sophomore, junior or senior status.
 Enrolled in at least 9 units per quarter, excluding summer.
 A minimum 2.0 overall grade point average and good academic standing.
 A major or minor geared towards Management and Human Resources field.
 Must be an active member with Cal Poly Pomona PIHRA, PIHRA and SHRM.
Skills and Abilities
 Works well with a team and be able to use critical thinking to solve arising issues
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
 Ability to take self-initiative, be a leader and demonstrate best HR practices.
 Ability to multi-task and be extremely well-organized
 Strong computer skills with knowledge of Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive
Schedule
 Must attend General Meetings on Tuesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m.
 Must attend Executive Board Meetings on Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m.
 Must attend the majority of PIHRA events
 Must be able to meet with SHRM team at least once a week to work on case study
 Must be available to present on Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 5:50 p.m.
Experience
 Must have completed MHR 301 and MHR 311
 Must have participated in at least 2 case studies
