Part A - Getting to Know and Understand your poem (Total possible marks 15)

Do a “Write Along” for your poem. (mark up your page to show your first impressions/later thinking about your poem. (2 marks)
2. Have 3 people complete a “Write Along” for your poem. (3 marks)
3. Complete a “Poetry Analysis” handout for your poem. (5 marks)
4. Research your poem (meaning, analysis
, poet…) and create a jot notes page to record your findings. Cite the source(s) of your research. (5 marks)
Part B – Multi-media Project - Presenting your Poem - see rubric (Total possible marks 30)
1. Create a multi-media product to present your poem (see examples on class website on Poetry Page)
Include the following:
Title and poet
Lyrics (words of the entire poem)
Sound/music/images etc. (consider finding a song written with the same name/theme – e.g. The Scarlet Ibis song we listened to in class)

– Written Analysis and Reflection
Write a one-two page analysis of your poem. Use the
“Poetry Analysis” handout that you completed in Part A. Include all four areas on the handout.
In your written analysis INCLUDE the following:
TAG line (Title, author, genre)
What is your poem about?
Identify literary devices used by the poet (e.g. alliteration, imagery, symbols, allusions, metaphors, similes, personification etc.).
Write a personal reflection on the poem you chose. Why did you choose this poem? What connections did/do you make with the poem?
What is your golden line?
