● Make posters / signs / table tents outlining the alcohol / drug policy and post them on campus
/ in hall
● Attend an AOD awareness / education program(s) on campus and write a summary
● Design and implement an AOD education program for the floor
● Have the student learn about Alcoholics Anonymous and write a report complete with statistics
● Have the student make a bulletin board (responsible use of alcohol, or harmful effects of
excessive use)
● Have the student make a bulletin board on harmful effects of drugs (can customize depending
on the exact drug violation)
● Plan a non-alcoholic party with board games or some other activity

Noise Violations

● Make posters / signs outlining the quiet hour / noise policy
● Design and post an acceptable decibel level using a decibel meter with the input from a staff
member for common areas of the building
● Plan and implement a program on different types of music, their origins etc
● Lead a noise patrol team for a certain period of time in his/her hall. Complete noise patrol
round sheets
● Make a presentation on “How to deal with Noise offenders” to residence life staff members
● Lead a discussion on noise level on the floor/hall & how that affects others on the floor during
a floor/hall meeting
● Letter of apology posted on the floor for causing a disturbance to the community
● Reflective paper on “What if someone else did what I did to the community” or “What if
everyone on the floor did it”
Damage to Property
Learning outcomes:

3. Realistic self appraisal/enforcement of one’s choices
● Pay restitution to repair / replace the damaged property
● Shadow buildings and grounds personnel responsible for repairing the damaged property for a
period of time
● Community service - Trash pick up / in a designated location / area for a period of time
● Design and implement a program around the topic of respect for private/public property and
responsibilities of community members
● Have them make an educational bulletin board outlining respect for private/public property.
● Develop & administer a survey on acceptable behavior as it relates to other’s property. Survey
50 people (staff, students, and faculty)
● Have the student make an inventory of public property. Have him/her check/verify the
inventory periodically for a certain amount of time.

● Have the student design, organize and execute a program on a topic related to the policy
violation
● Author a study on various kinds of pressures a college student faces along with appropriate
coping mechanisms.
● Have the student meet with the judicial officer to discuss how his/her actions have affected the
victim(s) and the community in which he/she resides. Ask the student to present what he/she
learned from the experience to Residence life staff
● Write apology to the victim / staff member in question
● Develop a behavior contract with the student (i.e. specific language outlining what is acceptable
behavior as it relates to community living & incentives for abiding by them and repercussions
for violating them)
● Have the student attend a stress management session / program held by RA or an on campus
event and complete one page summary of the event.
● Have the student lead a discussion on a topic related to the violation at a floor meeting, if
appropriate
● Have the student attend a workshop on campus related to the violation
● Assist the RA with floor tasks (make bulletin boards, door decs) (especially for vandalism cases)
● Interview a person(s) from the community (RA, Counselor, professor) to gain a better
perspective on how something could have been handled differently and compose a report.
● Have the student design and execute a workshop related to the violation
● Write a reflective short reflective paper “in the RAs shoes”
