ROOTS AND WINGS KINDERGARTEN LESSON THREE (Rev. 9-01) I. Review A. Pass out nametags. B. The last time I was here, we worked on the first two pages of our “All About Me” books and we played the “Warm Fuzzy Game”. Raise your hand if you like giving Warm Fuzzies!! Now raise your hand if you like getting Warm Fuzzies!! II. Overview A. Today we are going to talk more about how our words or actions can affect other people. Tell the students that you know they know what Warm Fuzzies are. Ask them if they remember what Cold Pricklies are. When a person gives a Cold Prickly they are being unkind to others. We are going to read a story called The Quarreling Book. B. We will also color two more pages of our “All about Me” books. III. Program A. Read The Quarreling Book. B. Set-up dominos [use Domino Rally game setup if you have it, otherwise use dominos or something like it (i.e. books)] C. Knock the dominos over showing how saying or doing something unkind to one person affects others. D. Set up dominos a second time and demonstrate how saying or doing something nice can affect others. E. Discuss how our attitude can affect others. When you are unkind to one person, it affects not only them, but everyone else they touch, and everyone touched by that person, and so on (The “Domino Effect”). The same is true if you are nice to one person. Relate this to Warm Fuzzies and Cold Pricklies. F. Hand out the “Warm Fuzzy” and “Cold Prickly” pages and ask students to color the pages and write what each means. Collect pages when they are done. IV. Evaluation A. Ask students to think about the “Domino Effect” and ask them if they would rather give out a Warm Fuzzy or a Cold Prickly. V. Summary A. We saw in our story The Quarreling Book how our words and actions can affect a lot of people. We all agreed that this can be both good and bad. Bad if we are giving or getting Cold Pricklies, but good if we are giving or getting Warm Fuzzies. B. Give the children some Warm Fuzzy Grams and ask them to put in their cubbies. Ask them to fill them out when they have time and give them to others. MATERIALS NEEDED: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
