Ten-second Synopses
Message for teachers
You want your students to watch more English TV. It only takes 10 seconds to sell an English in
the Air programme to them. Give them this preview before each episode.
Road Scholars
1. Amber goes to Thailand. She makes Thai noodles, rides an elephant and shows us how to use a Thai
toilet. Does she eat a grasshopper?
2. Daniel goes to Mexico to learn to surf with eleven other students. Surfing looks easy, and he loves
Mexican food. See how he likes the big waves, hot chillies and sharks....
3. Tyler goes snowboarding in the Alps. He’s at the top of the mountain. Will he snowboard all the way
down?
4. Nitya goes to Spain. She’ll show you its beautiful beaches, bullfighting and Barcelona city.
5. Casey stays in Canada. She goes diving and meets some fish with really big teeth!
6. Jason becomes an actor in Europe. The people don’t understand English so he has to become Mr Bean.
7. Shawn goes to the USA. He’s the youngest Road Scholar but that doesn’t stop him climbing up
mountains.
8. Adrianne goes to Ireland to study acting. Don’t worry, she still has time to go shopping.
Smallville
1. See how Superman came to Earth. Find out how he grows up, goes to school and meets
beautiful girls in his hometown, Smallville.
2. Clark’s classmate has become an insect!!! And he wants Clark’s true love, Lana, for dinner.
3. Why is the football coach getting really angry? Clark and Lex say, “No” to their fathers.
4. Clark’s classmate, Tina, can become different people. Find out who she becomes to rob a bank.
And Clark starts seeing through walls!
5. Clark has a date with Lana. However, an icy enemy is feeding on people's body heat. He

11. A businessman can shake people’s hands and they do everything he says. He makes Clark’s
father sell the farm. Then he gets someone to kill Clark!
12. Would you like to be as strong as Clark? One student gets his powers. Will he use them to help
or hurt people?
13. Three men can walk through walls to steal money. They need a new robber. Who will they
choose?
14. Lex saw a man die three years ago. Now he’s alive again. He wants Lex to die next.
15. People are acting strangely. Clark’s father is getting angry with everyone. Lana wants to kiss
Clark. What will he do?
16. The Kents find another boy. He can read people’s minds. Can he tell what Clark is thinking?
17. Everything Tyler touches turns to ashes, including people! He wants to touch someone’s father.

Sail Away
1. Meet 10 students who will spend five weeks on a boat, without TV or ice cream!
2. One girl is stung by a jelly fish and everyone has to eat a horrible shellfish, conch, for dinner.
3. The 10 students dive down to a plane wreck. What will they find there?
4. The 10 students swim with sharks but Whitney is still feeling really homesick. Will she go home?
5. The students swim in a cave and visit an island. It only got electricity two years ago. Does it
have TV?
6. Would you jump off a 10m high cliff? Watch some students try. Another student leaves. Who is
it? Watch to find out.
7. The students went sailing at night. “If you fall overboard, you’re dead,” said the instructor.
8. Would you like to go into a dark cave full of flying bats? Watch the student try not to look scared.
9. The students visit a town with only 350 people. There is dancing in the street but does it sell ice
cream?
10. The students are going to get close to sharks. Close enough to touch them!
11. The students swim and play with 200 dolphins and cook a big fish for dinner. Yummy!
