Characters Marco: Heroic figure in the story. He often pushes for the upstanding morals. Even though he is a hippie, he does not buy into free love and all the other common hippie stereotypes. He often works hard, and finds peace through being productive. He falls in love with Star and has a strong dislike to Ronnie. He is a draft dodger but seems to be more courageous than any of the other characters. At the end of the story, he is a mentor to Sess. Star: The love interest of Marco and a sexual object of Ronnie. She is often conflicted with her thoughts, always checking her thoughts to see if they are what others should feel. He past and her complaints are pretty normal, but seem to be on a much more dramatic scale for her. She is often conflicted when Ronnie and Marco fight, due to her love of Marco and her close friendship to Ronnie. In the end, she mellows out a little and becomes close friends to Pamela. Sess: The heroic woodsman of Alaska. He helps out the hippies when they move up North. He feels indebted to Norm, as Norm is the nephew of the man who taught Sess how to live on his own. He works hard to live the life he has, but he loves it. He also loves Pamela, his wife. Sess is mostly quiet, but he is still a kind individual. He is protective of his wife, his dogs, and his lifestyle. Anything that threatens it, is an automatic enemy. Pamela: She is the wife of Sess. She is very kind and very much in love with Sess. She is less conservative than Sess. She acquires a taste for pot and enjoys some of the hippies company. She is loyal to Sess and loves him dearly, despite the occasional moments of frustration. She finds a close friend in Star, who she uses as another woman to gossip to in the wilderness. Ronnie: Ronnie is the satanic figure of the story. He often does the bad thing, usually looking out for himself. His character is usually accompanied by the sounds of crows, death, or misery. He appoints himself as the hunter of the hippies, despite the overwhelming dislike of meat. He still enjoys killing. Ronnie looks out only for himself, usually manipulating others along the way. Norm: The leader of the hippies. He formed Drop City. He is a passive leader and a relatively useless one. The Hippies: The hippies, although with different names, usually act along the same lines. They are all into drugs; they love eastern thought, and can not get enough of classic rock. Any stereotype to the hippie lifestyle, the group most likely has. Joe Bosky: Sess’ nemesis. He is a lone man in the wilderness. He is well off with his cabin and the land he has set up. He is mostly well off, because the money he makes is usually made through the wrong ways. He is an evil character, with little redemption.
