Essential Question: How does the Great Gatsby transcend time

advertisement
Essential Question: How does your topic reflect the message of the novel The Great Gatsby?
Process:
1. Select 1 significant detail from the film Bernice Bobs Her Hair. This will be your research topic (Example: aspects of
society, such as the automobile, people’s behaviour, fashion, political events, etc.)
2. Select 1 significant quote from the novel. This quote should be related to the detail/topic from step 1.
3. Research the topic using 2-3 sources. Create a Reflective Bibliography using Noodletools. A reflective bibliography
is a list of all the sources you used in order to collect information about the past or present. The list should be
formatted in proper MLA style and beneath each source is a brief (2-3 sentences in bullet form) that deals with the
research process questions below. Be sure to check the rubric to see how you will be evaluated.
- How did you find this source? Be specific.
(Database, pathfinder, portal website, search engine, if so which one and what was your search term.)
-
If your source is a website, what kind of website is it? What does the URL tell you about the site? (.edu, .com,
.org, etc.). Describe any problems or successes you had as you searched.
How do you know this source is credible? In other words, why should you take the author seriously? Who
owns it? What is stated in the “About Us” section, etc.
(Have you checked for the author’s background, biases, etc.)
-
In a time when we are inundated with information (we have too much information) what makes this source
the BEST possible source?
4. Your final product will be one detailed paragraph about your topic. It should include specific details and research. Be
sure to format the paragraph as demonstrated in class. You will also need to have a correctly formatted title page.
Checklist
____ Pick a specific detail from the movie and provide a written commentary about it. The commentary will include what happened
specifically in the movie and its significance.
____ Pick a quote from the novel which is similar to the movie detail and provide a written commentary about the selection and how it
relates to the movie detail.
____ Research the topic, using 2-3 sources. You will need to hand in a reflective bibliography using Noodeltools. THIS WILL
RECEIVE A GRADE.
____ Create a unified paragraph using the movie detail, the quote from the novel and your research. Your paragraph will need a
formal title page. THIS WILL BE GRADED.
