Summer Reading Assignment Requirements Book Report After students read their first novel for the summer, they are required to write a book report about it. This report should be at least two pages long. It should be typed and double-spaced with one-inch margins and Times New Roman Font. This report should be written in five-paragraph essay form—it should include an intro paragraph, at least three body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. The content of this essay should contain the following information: 1. Explain the significance of the title. 2. Identify the setting (both time and place). 3. Which conflict/conflicts do you find in this story? Identify and explain each. There are three types of conflict: a. Person against person (one person or group against another) b. Person against nature (something over which one has no control) c. Person against self (conscience). 4. Write a plot summary. 5. Would you recommend this book to a classmate? Explain why or why not. Students should give information about the story in their own words. NO PLAGIARISM! Book Poster After students read their second summer reading novel, they are required to create a poster that depicts the story. Students will take a poster board and cut it in half On this half of a poster board, they will draw what they think would be a good book cover for the novel. The book cover should depict the setting, characters, and some important plot point from the story. The student-made book cover should also include the title of the book and the name of the author like an actual book cover would. Book Test Make sure that you read this novel toward the end of the summer so that you can remember the information for the test!!! When students return to school in August, they will take an Accelerated Reader test on the third book that they read. The results of this test will be used as a TEST GRADE in Literature. The Accelerated Reader tests are comprehension-based tests that students take on the computer. They are multiple-choice tests.
