Stage 1 – Desired Results
Established Goals: By the end of this unit students will be able to use a scaffold to develop questions, find information and relay that
information about their chosen champion and what makes them successful, to the class.
Students will understand, display and assess the many ways a person can manage their impulsivity.
Students produce, in print and electronic forms, a variety of texts for different purposes using structures and features of
language appropriate to the purpose, audience and context of the writing. They begin to use simple figurative language
and visual images. They employ a variety of strategies for writing, including note-making, using models, planning, editing
and proofreading.

Your class has been researching the qualities of successful people. Teen
magazine is very interested in this and has asked your class to write a
series of feature articles that will also appear in the school newsletter about
these characteristics. Eg each article should be about a characteristic and
give examples of how people use them to become successful.

Journal on Managing their Impulsivity
Experience has shown that parents like to read about how the class work is
used by students, so your article should also include how you use each of
these qualities (or a time when you should have!)
Your work will be judged using a rubric assessing the research process, use
of protocols during class and presentation of information.
