Lesson Summary/Recap
2 Kings 20 & 2 Chronicles 32—Initially Hezekiah (King of Judah, son of Ahaz)-did that which was right
in the eyes of the Lord. He removed the high places and broke the images and brass snake that Moses made
because the people burned incense and worshipped it. King Hezekiah was threatened by the King of Assyria,
Sennacherib. Sennacherib entered into Judah and attempted to attack Jerusalem. 2 Chronicles 32:1-2 probes
that Judah is Jerusalem. Sennacherib (king of Assyria) sent letters to taunt/mock the Lord. As a result,
Hezekiah encouraged the people to continue serving the Lord. The Lord then sent an angel to kill the captains of
Assyria. As a result of the victory, many people brought gifts unto the Lord and present unto Hezekiah. In those
days, Hezekiah became sick and prayed to the Lord asking for the shadow/sun to go backwards 10 degrees as a
sign of his healing from the Lord. Once Hezekiah was healed, he grew prideful and his heart was lifted. Hezekiah
showed the son of the king of Babylon (Berodachbaladan) all of his treasures and everything that he owned. As
a result, the Lord vowed that all of Hezekiah’s house and treasure will be captured by Babylon and Hezekiah’s
sons will be eunuchs in Babylon. As a result, Hezekiah humbled himself from the pride of his heart before the
Lord so that the wrath of the Lord would not come upon him in his days.

2 Kings 21 & 2 Chronicles 33—Manasseh (King of Judah, son of Hezekiah). When Hezekiah died,
Manasseh reigned in his stead. Manasseh was 12 years old when he began to reign as king and he did evil in the
sight of the Lord. Initially, Manasseh seduced the people to do more evil than the heathen nations before him.
Manasseh rebuilt the high places and images that his father (Hezekiah) destroyed. Manasseh also had his
children pass through the fire and engage in witchcraft and enchantment. Due to Manasseh’s disobedience, the
Lord vowed to wipe Jerusalem as a dish and turn it upside-down. Manasseh was captured by the King of Assyria
and carried into Babylon. As a result, Manasseh then humbled himself before the Lord and prayed unto God.
The Lord heard the prayers of Manasseh and brought him again unto his kingdom, Jerusalem. Then Manasseh
built a wall around the City of David (Jerusalem) and removed all the strange gods. He repaired the altar of the
Lord.
2 Kings 21 & 2 Chronicles 33—King Amon (son of Manasseh) reigned in Jerusalem when Manasseh
died. Amon did evil in the sight of the Lord. He served the idols that his father 9Manasseh) worshipped. Amon
refused to humble himself before the Lord. As a result, Amon was killed by his own servants.
