Creating Propaganda: Rules
Why is this important?:
- Building on group work skills, as well as individual writing and speaking skills
- Relating and understanding the positive and negative effects of propaganda
- Using different forms of media to enhance creativity
Rules:
1. This is a group project- 3 students to a group--- teacher will assign group members
2. Groups will randomly pick from the fishbowl--- picking either For The Hunger Games or Against The
Hunger Games
(You will base your propaganda based on the side you picked)
3. ALL PICKS ARE FINAL! NO RE-PICKING!
4. Groups will make an advertisement/billboard/commercial (anything creative--- you can come up with
your own form of propaganda media) showing your side of The Hunger Games
5. All media ideas must be approved by the Effie Trinket first (AKA ME--- YOUR TEACHER)
6. WRITTEN ASPECT:
- Explain your propaganda and why your group chose this form of media
- What type of propaganda did you use (based on the different types we discussed in class --- refer to
class handout!)
- What types of rhetorical device(s) did you use in your propaganda (refer back to your in class handout
for extra help!)
- Why did you choose this rhetorical device-- what effect does it have with your propaganda
7. PRESENTATION ASPECT:
- Groups will present media and propaganda
- One member from your group will discuss the media used for your propaganda and why your
group chose it. Why is it most effective for your side that you had to defend?
- One member from your group will discuss what type of propaganda your group chose and why.
Why was it most effective for your side that you had to defend?
- One member from your group will discuss what rhetorical device(s) your group used and why it is
most effective for the side you had to defend.
8. INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION ASPECT:
- Each group member will have to make an individual reflection post.
- Reflect on the following:
1. How does propaganda effect us positively and negatively?
2. How would your propaganda effect the characters in the novel? (positive or negative-- use textual
evidence to support your claim)
3. How does propaganda shape us and our character? (Both positive and negative)
4. Does propaganda strive for humans to be perfect or fail trying? (Why or Why Not)
9. Tumblr Post:
- Post your group propaganda and answered questions to your Tumblr (One group member-- other
group members must reblog the finished product from that original group members post)
- Individual Reflection -- This will be in a separate post on your Personal Page
