The Road Not Taken
By Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
5
Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
10
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
15
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

In “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost there are many Dominant
Poetic Devices such as symbol, and Imagery which is important
because of “decision that can happen during life time”
Decision
“In the end that was the choice you made, and it doesn't matter how hard it was to make it. It matters that
you did.” In life time, the moment to make a decision comes frequently, and that can affect the future of life.
In “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost there are many Dominant Poetic Devices such as symbol, and
Imagery which is important because of how poet explain process of making decisions in life. For example,
poet uses symbol to begin the big idea. “Two roads” diverge each other represents life that people have
with freewill and fate that everyone has (1). In other words it represents dilemma or crises that requires
answer that people often has. While the speaker is choosing between two things, poet uses imagery to
emphasize. For example, at first the speaker saw “grassy” road and think and speaker scan the other one as
well, which was more traveled from people (8). Speaker figures the two ways are little different but as time
of thinking goes on he gets idea that both road is similar. However, speaker chooses grassy road that has
“leaves [that] no [one have] step had trodden black” because of his curiosity, speaker thought the road is
less traveled way (13). In seems speaker regrets a little when speaker say “I shall be telling this with a sigh
somewhere ages and ages hence” (17). However, in last two lines he says “And that has made all the
difference “which is result to the decision speaker have made (20).
