FOR STAFF & FACULTY:
- Senior Class will be selling lunch plates for Thursday, April 26, for $7, from Jamaican Grill. Please see any Senior Officer
to order!
FOR EVERYONE:
- The AP Calculus Exam will be on May 9. Interested students must sign up at the Business office and make at least
partial payment. Cost of Exam: $118.
- Reminder: There will be no classes on Professional Development Day, Friday, April 20.
- Honors and Advanced Placement for SY 2012-13: There will be a mandatory parent and student orientation on
Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 6:00 pm in the Library. Your parent/guardian must attend this meeting in order for
you to receive an application form for the Honors/Advanced Placement program. There will also be an
informational Honors and AP meeting for students on Tuesday, April 24, during lunch in room 407. Meet some of
the teachers for the program and get answers to your questions to help you decide if Honors and AP are for you!
- SAT 10 Testing will be April 30-May 4th. Students are reminded to bring #2 pencils.
- Seniors suspended during 2nd semester will not be able to participate in the graduation.
- Seniors are reminded to pay all obligations before the last day of school to ensure receipt of their diplomas on
graduation day.
- Reminder: Mesh/clear bag policy is still in effect.
- Music devices and headphones will be confiscated if students are playing them during instructional time,
including while walking the halls with music playing loudly, which is disrupting to classes in session.
- Interested in running for SBA or Class Council? It’s not too late! The Class of 2013 still
needs candidates for the positions of Secretary and Treasurer, and other classes have open
positions as well. You can pick up packets for candidacy in room 206. They are due by April
19. Elections will be held on April 25 & 26.
- There will be NO Eskuelan Puengi on April 20, Professional Staff Development Day.
- Auditions for next year’s HONOR CHOIR have started and are being held during lunch in the Choir room (212) on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sign up for Vocational/Combo band are ongoing as well (lunch time). - Cameras are
installed throughout the campus to ensure the safety of students and the security of school resources! Please
continue to thank our sponsors for providing security to the school.

● Sanctuaries Incorporated AmeriCorps Members are providing Mentoring and Assisting With Homework on
Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30 and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Astumbo Senior center in Dededo.

- SSHS Dance Team Presents: “Shake the Floor- If You Know You Can Dance, Show Us What You’ve Got!”
April 27, 2012 in the Barn during lunch. Sign up now (at the Barn) to compete. Admission to the show is $1. See any
Dance Team member for more info.
-Freshmen: There will be a class meeting on Tuesday, April 17. It well be held in room 202 during the first half of
lunch.
- There will be Freshman Class carwashes on Saturday, April 21 at the Harmon McDonald’s from 8am-4pm;
Saturday, May 5 @ Harmon McDonald’s; Saturday, May 19 @ Harmon McDonald’s.
- Academic Challenge Bowl team members: There will be a meeting on April 17 during the 1st part of lunch in room
309 regarding our last regular game of the season.
- Agana Shopping Center is pleased to announce the 3rd Quarter “A” Club Registration for SY 2011-2012 scheduled
on Sunday, April 22.
- Micronesia Mall is promoting the iDance – Dance Competition, an Island wide Dance Competition that will be
held at Micronesia Mall this month. Students are encouraged to take part in this event. For more information,
please call Ms. Patricia from Micronesia Mall at 635-1105 or see the Dance Instructors, Mrs. Johnston-Shimizu or
Mr. Medina, in the Barn.
- Attention Seniors: Please pick-up your tassels/announcements in room 415 during lunch if you haven't done so yet.
- SENIORS: Prom is on the 28th of April at the Sheraton Laguna. Seniors interested in running for Royal Court can
pick up a packet from Rhoda Basto, Danielle Subido or Anne Quijano.
- ENTERTAINERS: If you are interested in performing for Senior Prom, see CionJanelle Padilla, Anne Quijano or go
to room 202 on Thursdays to sign up.
- Yearbooks are currently on sale. Price is $65.00- deposits are welcome! See any YB Club member or
student. Yearbook sales will end on April 25.
- The Go Green! Club will be selling club t-shirts for $12. See club officers and some of its members for a
sample picture of the shirt.
- Purchase a Leave Your Mark shirt! Visit Mrs. Andres’ classroom, room 232 and purchase one from any LYM
student. Black and white shirts are only $10 while all other shirts are only $12. Thank you!
- Leave Your Mark is having a coin drive. Each student form the LYM class will be distributing jars to the teachers of
their choice. If teachers want to be a part of this coin drive to raise money for our school’s security system, please go
to room 232 and consult with Mrs. Andres or any student from the LYM class.
- Sophomore Class Fundraisers
- Coin Drive: Donate coins! Jars will be located in rooms 203 and 105.
- Choose from a variety of snacks and drinks during our after school sales!
*Contests:
- Law Week 2012 will be celebrated from April 28-May 5, 2012, and the Judiciary of Guam, District Court of Guam
and the Guam Bar Association have partnered to sponsor the annual Law Day Essay contest. The essay contest
allows students to recognize the importance of law in our society. The 2012 Law Day theme is: “No Courts, No
Justice, No Freedom.” This year’s theme focuses on the importance of preserving access to the justice system and
provides an opportunity to highlight the crucial role of our courts in a free society. The deadline to submit the
entries is Friday, April 20, 2012. Teachers may wish to incorporate the contest into the class curriculum, either for a
grade or for extra credit. Please pick up entry forms, which must be attached to the essays, from the main office.
What’s NEW at the Library?
- New Fiction books just arrived! Come and check-out the books in the library for your reading pleasure. We have
new books by Nicholas Sparks, Ally Condie, Meg Cabot, Stephenie Meyer and more. Students who check out over
10 of our new books receive a hardcover book from the First Book Grant. See the librarian for more details.
- We now have the book Towards a Theology of the Chamoru: Struggle and Liberation in Oceania. The author,
Jonathan Blas Diaz, signed and donated a copy for circulation. It is now available for borrowing.
- SSHS Mac Lab is open for all our students (free). Students can now use our laptops for free during lunch and
special arrangements during class time. Please see Mrs. Napalan for details and instructions. Teachers: Please
make arrangements if you need the lab to be accessible to your students during lunch or after school.
- Do you like to read with your friends? We have multiple copies of new books. Visit the SSHS Library Mac Lab and
see Mrs. Napalan.
- We now have magazine subscriptions to *Sports Illustrated, Artist, Newsweek, *Clay Times, *Life and Style and
many more. Visit the library and check our magazine rack. (*Latest issues just in!)
- We have assorted colored card stock for sale. Please see any of our library aides for more details.
