Call for abstracts for two Interdisciplinary sessions on Feminism at Congress2014. ‘The Potentialities of Feminist Research’ ‘Feminist Methodologies: Interdisciplinary, Disciplinary, Sub-disciplinary Reflections’ Several associations are collaborating on planning these two sessions at the Canadian Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences Congress, Brock University, St. Catherine’s, ON (May 26-30, 2014). The sessions will be hosted by Canadian Sociology Association (CSA), and are cosponsored by several other associations, including CRIAW]. Thus CRIAW members can submit proposals (without joining CSA or registering for CSA at Congress, providing they belong to CRIAW and register for the Congress). Deadline for submissions of paper proposals is January 31, 2014. Submissions must be made electronically at: http://www.csascs.ca/files/webapps/csapress/annual-conferences/call-for-papers/ . Both sessions are listed in the ‘feminist studies’ section of the list of CSA sessions. The Potentialities of Feminist Research: This session focuses attention on the potentials of Canadian feminist research within the changed scholarly and political contexts of 2014. Panelists will bring diverse perspectives and experiences to this discussion of the contributions, challenges and relevance of feminist social analysis in varied contexts. Discussion will follow. Feminist Methodologies: Interdisciplinary, Disciplinary, Sub-disciplinary Reflections What makes methods and methodologies feminist? Are feminist methodological critiques of scholarship still required? What feminist approaches need to be invented to address contemporary and future issues? From your experiences with feminist research, what are the major methodological approaches and insights that would be useful to other feminist scholars? The research is designed?)session welcomes reflections about one or more of these questions. We welcome: - reflections on the parameters of what constitute feminist methods and methodologies (e.g: is it the theoretical or analytical approach? the research questions asked? the tools for seeking answers? the nature of analysis and interpretation? the social relations within which the - reflections on the processes and challenges of using feminist methodologies and on others’ reactions to feminist innovative approaches (e.g.: are these tools or approaches considered ‘credible’ – by whom – and why? (not)?) -papers that reflect on changes needed to realign feminist methods and methodologies to address current and future challenges. - papers about methodological insights arising from conducting different types Together these papers will also reveal how feminist methodologies within various traditions vary and/or share implicit and explicit commonalities. of research (e.g. feminist community-based research, feminist demographic research, feminist intersectional research or feminist praxis).
