You may include pieces that Ms. Popp hasn’t returned graded yet—we can place them in later, or you can include new copies if you prefer. b) Write a Myself as a Writer Letter to the world about your growth as a writer, addressing the questions on the reverse—and more! c) Place your Letter and your 4 or 5 pieces of writing neatly in your writing folder, and turn the completed folder in to Ms. Popp. d) Upload your Myself as a Writer Letter to Turnitin. II. READING—complete the following for 25 points (independent reading): 10 points Goodreads (be sure to add The Other Wes Moore as a “to read” book!), 5 points (homework) Turnitin upload, and 10 points (writing) letter. a) Update your Goodreads account for the year. b) Write a Myself as a Reader Letter to the world about your growth as a reader (see template on reverse). c) Upload your “Myself as a Reader Letter to Turnitin. Juniors, please note: These letters are of particular importance if I am writing you a letter of recommendation for college. Your letter should include the following: Who you are; A bit about this year’s English class; Your earliest memories of writing; How did elementary/middle school influence your writing experiences? Have you ever written for fun? Do you ever enjoy writing? What you think you do well in your writing based on your work this year; What you would like to do better in your writing based on your work this year; What you think the pieces in your reflection tell the reader about you; Anything else you might like to include. Your goal is to trace your growth in reading over the course of this and previous years, and to write thoughtfully about the ways in which reading has affected your life, academically and/or privately, positively and/or negatively, etc. Your letter should include the following: What are your first memories of reading (i.e. people telling you stories, reading to you)? How old were you when you learned how to read? How did elementary school affect your experiences of reading? Do you remember reading as a child? What sort of things did you read? What have your reading experiences been in recent years? What do you read now for school? For fun? Do you think your ability to read well plays any part in your self-image? Do you enjoy reading?
