Writing Activity: The Columbian Exchange
Our assessment for the Columbian Exchange is to write a 5 paragraph essay
responding to the following prompt:
“Evaluate the impact of the Columbian Exchange on the cultures of American
Indians, Europeans, and Africans.”
Please structure your essay in the order we described in class. Your first
paragraph should be an introduction, followed by three body paragraphs and finishing
with a conclusion.
In your introduction you are to write 2-3 background sentences to begin your
essay. The next sentence in the introduction should be your thesis statement where you
are telling the reader what your judgment of the exchange was on the various cultures. In
your final sentence please write three points you will use to provide the body of evidence
for your thesis.
This assessment is worth 20 points. You will be graded based on the following
criteria:
-Correct Facts (10 points)
-Correct use of spelling, conventions, and grammar (5 points)
-Correct use of the proper writing structure for a 5 paragraph essay (5 points)
This assignment will be due October 5, 2009, at the beginning of class. We will
work on it during class, but there is no guarantee that will be enough time to finish your
work.
