BR: Give one example how Violence/strength and
courage are used in the Poem
Students will continue to read Beowulf
Students will incorporate the two themes along with
the plot study guide

Tuesday

I can list the qualities of a epic hero
I can identify descriptive words
I can follow plot outline
BR: How is Grendal subdued?
Students will use study to follow theme/plot
Students will predict the outcome of the battle with
Grendal and Grendel’s mother

Thursday
Vocabulary for understanding themes
I can describe the setting of the Grendal’s lair –
pinpointing appropriate vocabulary
I can identify the themes of good and evil
BR: What is the description of Grendel’s mother

Friday
Vocabulary: Theme Handout
I can write about the theme of good and evil
I can list elements of Christianity and paganism
I can outline the elements of an Epic poem
BR: What theme is the most important to AngloSaxons
Students will write 5 paragraph paper on three themes
of Beowulf
Students will use the plot structure study guide
Students will compare the film with the Epic Poem
Students will take quiz over sections 1-7
Students will continue following the themes of good
and evil, paganism/Christianity, Epic hero – virtue
Students will discuss in pairs discern the description of
“hell” as personified by Grendele and Grendel’s
mother
Students will use study guide to follow plot and theme
guide
Students will detail descriptive words the describe the
final battle
