The story is about a dog named Buck, who experiences an exciting adventure to the North and eventually becomes a legend of North America. First of all, I’ll talk about my favorite character-Buck, of course. Buck is a heavy, mighty dog, I like him because he can wisely use his power to face the trouble he encounters. Also, he never gives up any chance to survive. I really appreciate his strong will to live. I also like Thornton, the last master of Buck. He treats Buck like his own child, not like the other masters who treat Buck in cruel ways. Unfortunately, Thornton is killed in the end, and later Buck takes revenge for him. As to my favorite part of the book, it must be when Buck fights against Spitz, the original leader of Buck’s team. Buck has endured Spitz’s harassment for a long time, and this time he finally gets his chance to fight back and kill Spitz! I like the excellent description of the fighting scene. Every movement, every gasp and every every escape is so vivid. Besides, I also like the part when Buck pulls the sled for Thornton and eventually wins the bet. In this section, Buck shows his love to his master by not letting his master down. The words “If you love me, Buck. If you love me…” really impress me. I think, even if Thornton doesn’t say the words to Buck, he will still pull the sled with all his might. Whether Buck can understand what his master says, I believe Buck will give all he can to Thornton. Because of the strong bond between the man and the dog, no word is need. Their love toward each other goes beyond all languages. However, in the end of the story, Buck follows “the call of the wild” and returns to the wild. I think the death of Thornton is definitely a tragedy for Buck, but it can also be a turning point for him. Because, since Buck heard “the call of the wild,” he has hesitated, unable to strike a balance between “the love of the master” and “the call of the wild.” After Thornton dies, sad as he is, Buck finds there is nothing that can keep him from going back to nature. Buck grows up in the human world, following the rules of humans. However, a series of torment and adventures in the wild wake “the real him” up. Through the adventures, Buck has learned the skills to survive and understood the rules of the wild. Deep inside his heart, Buck knows well that he was born for the wild. The personality of each character in the story is obvious. Through the words of Jack London, we can easily understand what the characters are like. And in it, I learn that we can’t simply divide people into good or bad because everyone in the story takes action following his or her own values. For example, the Indians who brutally kill Thornton, are just trying to protect their land from intruders. Jack London had many traveling experiences to North. That’s why he could finish this amazing book. In fact, many characters in his book such as Buck can be seen as his own reflection on life. Whether you view this book as an animal adventure or a human’s reflection on the true meaning of life, without a doubt, the legend of Buck will live on forever. 角色 Character 形容詞 Adjective Buck brave 單字 Word 出現頁數 Page axe 4 torn(tear) 9 growl 2 sledge 11 harness 24 句子 Sentence 頁數 Page If you love me, Buck.
