Summer holidays are over!
I liked my summer holidays very much because I had so much fun! I went to the beach,
I played with my friends, I played computer games and so many other interesting and funny
things. I think that this year it is going to be more difficult than last year because we have
new subjects, which are more difficult, such as Maths and French. But I have good teachers.
They explain and teach us very well. With their help and some study I can have good marks. I
like being back to school because I can see my friends again and play with my them. The bad
aspects are only three: I can’t sleep until late, I have homework to do and I haven’t so much
time to rest.

My summer holidays were very cool because the first weeks of August I went to
England with my cousin. We went to my aunt´s house. She lives in a village by the River
Thames. It is a very beautiful place called Henley-on-Thames. We always have a lot of fun
when we go to England, because we do lots of walks by the river, visit London and go to fun
parks. This year we went to London by train. While in London we used the underground to
move to one place to another, because of the traffic. In London we went to the Natural
History Museum and to the Apollo Victoria Theatre were we saw a great show called
“Wicked”. We also went on a week trip to the Lake District. We stayed in a very small
country house in the middle of the mountains. It had only nine rooms!... In Cumbria, also
known as Lake District, we climbed up and walked on a lot of beautiful mountains. It was even
funnier because it was raining. We also sailed their amazing blue waters and we specially ate a
lot of delicious food.
Back to Henley we went to other districts like Silverstone, where we visited its
famous car track. We also visited a place called Ascot. It is a place where the famous horse
races take place and where we can bet in our favourite horses. We even won some money
from our bets.
When I came back to Portugal I was very happy to see my family again. I missed them
a lot while I was in London. We all went to the Algarve where we enjoyed the last days of our
holidays on the beach and in the swimming pool.
These were great holidays but now the school routine has already started. The school
topic makes me think about good and not so good things. The bad things are the fact that I
have to study, do my homework and all those boring things that nobody likes to do. But it also
has good things like learning new things, meeting our friends again, making new ones and the
best thing of all: I don’t have to do home chores because I have to study! It´s going to be
hard work year!!

Last holiday I had the opportunity to try new experiences and challenges.
As soon as school finished, my friends and I got together every morning to do some
sport. We rode our bikes and we did some jogging. Unfortunately my parents forced me to
paint my house. In the beginning it was cool, but later it became more and more boring …
My sister influenced me and my friend Mariana to start playing some tennis, so we
played during a whole month. We enjoyed it so much that we still practise tennis every
Thursday. Then I spent some days at my grandmother’s house. As my uncle has many horses I
could ride them, too.
I spent some days in Lisbon. I went to the beach and shopping in Colombo and Almada
Forum. I went to the cinema and watched the movie “Mamma Mia” with a friend of mine from
the old days.
In the end my family and I spent our last days of our holidays in Monte Gordo and in
Spain. I went to the beach, to the swimming pool and I visited some monuments, too. For the
first time I could taste Mexican food. I liked it a lot and my sister loved it!
When I came back to school what I most liked was the part that I could meet my
friends again. I also enjoyed my new teachers. They are very cheerful, nice and open-minded.
I didn’t like the part that I can’t see my sister everyday at school. I miss the old times!...

Hello! My name is Miguel Rosado, I’m thirteen years old and I live in Évora, a
Portuguese town.
Last summer holidays I went to the Algarve for two weeks. I went by car with my
family. I visited lots of people from my family who live there. The thing that I liked the most
was going to the beach every day.
I also visited The Netherlands. I went there by plane and this was the first time I
flew, so it was a bit weird. I visited lots of museums and there was only one problem there.
The food is too expensive in Amsterdam!
I liked my holidays but I hope I will have the opportunity to visit Praga in 2 years time.

Free Time and the Internet!
When I’m not at school or studying I have lots of different activities. I usually spend
my leisure time with my sister or my friends. Sometimes we go to the cinema, to each other’s
houses or for long walks in the city.
At Mariana’s house we spend some time playing musical instruments and practising,
because we have a band. Mariana and Ricardo play the guitar and my sister is the lead singer.
Ana plays the drums and I play the guitar, although sometimes we play other instruments or
switch tasks. In my house, my friends and I usually do some school work or just talk and play
some funny games. We always have lots of fun together!... I also watch TV very often. I don’t
usually read, although I like reading, and I play “Wii”, sometimes alone or with my friends and
family. I prefer spending my free time with my friends because we have many things in
common and lots of fun when we are together, even if we stay at home.
At night I usually switch on my computer and chat with my friends in the msn. I also
enjoy listening to music. Every time that I have access to the internet, I go to the
“www.youtube.com” or I visit other sites to do some school research.
I like spending time on my computer very much, but there is a little disadvantage: my
computer isn’t portable and in Winter it’s very cold and that’s boring, because if I’m working,
I can’t concentrate myself.
In my opinion, the internet can have as many advantages as disadvantages. There is no
doubt that the internet is a great means of communication, although it can be very
dangerous, too. There are lots of people that don’t understand the danger that is giving our
personal identification or meeting new people through the internet, so I think that we should
just chat with people we know. But the internet has a lot of useful information and different
leisure activities, such as computer games, too.
In my free time I also love doing some sport. Since last summer holidays I have been
playing tennis and, whenever I’m not busy, I like jogging with my father and sister.
Margarida Féria, 8ºA
In my free time I usually talk and have fun with my friends, but with my family it’s
different. When I’m with my friends we sometimes go to each other’s houses or we join
together to watch a movie at the cinema. When I’m with my family I usually go to the park or
to other places where we can go for a walk.
My only free time is at the weekend because during the week I’m busy with classes
and I have to study.
In my free time I also enjoy playing games on my computer, doing some research for
homework or creating animations like “A fuga de Luís Miguel”, which is a short movie I have
been creating with a friend of mine. I frequently use research sites for school works but I
visit game sites, too.
I think the internet can be a great help, but it can be also very dangerous because of
some chatrooms. The Internet is great because we can do research about whatever we need –
it’s a wonderful source of information. But some sites, like chatrooms, can be dangerous
because we may not know the true identity of those we are talking to and that’s a big risk...
André Vicente, 8ºB
I only have some free time when I don’t have to do my homework or when I don’t need
to study or help my mother at home.
I like spending my free time alone, because I enjoy doing the things I want to. But I
also like meeting my friends. Most of the time I spend my leisure time at home, in my
bedroom. I like spending my time listening to music, playing computer games, watching TV or
playing Playstation 2. When I rarely go out with my friends, it is normally to do some school
projects or to go to the cinema.
On my computer I enjoy listening to music, playing games, searching for information
about films or to do research for some school subjects or to look for interesting things.
I think the Internet is good because it can help us in some school projects that I need
to do or to search for other different things. But it can also be very dangerous because when
we are in a chatroom, there are some people who say that are somebody else and then they
can have bad intentions. We mustn’t believe in everything people say and follow some safety
rules.
Joana Paulo, 8ºB
When I have some free time I like hanging out with my friends. We enjoy going to the
cinema or staying at home watching TV, listening to music or studying. In the summer I like
swimming in my swimming pool, too.
I prefer spending my leisure time with my friends because we are the same age and we
share the same tastes. But I also enjoy being with my family. My favourite free time
activities are swimming, listening to music, going to the cinema or surfing the internet.
When I’m surfing the Net I enjoy playing games, chatting with my friends on the MNS
or doing research for school projects. For me, the most positive aspect of the internet is
that we can learn new things about the four corners of the world when we switch on our
computer. But there is also a negative aspect: we don’t know if the people we are talking to
are the ones they say they are and some kids may meet people on the net with dangerous
ideas.
Ana Rita Santos, 8ºA
Hi! My name is Carolina, I’m 13 years old and I live in Évora. I like spending my free
time with my family and friends because it is great fun when we are together, for example,
playing games, shopping or doing a lot of cool things. I usually spend my free time at home or
in the street when I’m going for a walk.
Well, I have a few hobbies like figure skating, a musical band called “Os Tuninhas”,
table tennis and target practise. Some years ago I also had violin and swimming lessons.
Whenever I have some time I enjoy playing computer games, watching TV and visiting other
places.
When I’m on the computer I like writing texts, but when I’m surfing the internet I
enjoy gathering images or important information and, of course, playing games. I enjoy
visiting the sites “www.google.pt” or “Wikipedia” to search for images or information. To play
games I enjoy going to sites like “www.1000jogos.com”, “www.miniclip.com”, or
“www.microjogos.com”. Like most things, the Internet has good aspects like lots of
information about different things and subjects or it can help us with school works, but it
also has some bad aspects. In chatrooms people may lie about who they say they are, there
are lots of virus and many other things.
