Absences require a written note or an e-mail from the parent/guardian. Phone contact is permissible if the parent/guardian speaks with me directly or leaves me a detailed voicemail. If a student is absent from school the day of the concert and the absence has been called in by the parent, the phone-in message will suffice. Excused concert absences will receive full points for the essay. ALL ABSENT STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT, REGARDLESS OF THE REASON FOR THE ABSENCE, IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A GRADE FOR THE CONCERT. ASSIGNMENT: Please select two of the pieces your choral class prepared for this concert and write an essay comparing and contrasting the two pieces. Make sure you include the names of the pieces in your essay. As you analyze the pieces ask yourself these questions pertaining to music: “what is the ...” tempo, key signature, time signature, form, voicing/texture, genre, tonality, dynamics, articulation, subject matter, time period, composers, year the piece was written? Your essay should be typed, double-spaced, and be between 400-500 words long.
