Change for Charities Parents, Students have done an outstanding job on their book reports this year. For our last book report, students will work on a project called “Change for Charities.” Students will be asked to read a book of their choice and present an oral presentation of that book to the class. We are also asking that they come to school dressed up as a character from their book. At this time, students will only present their presentations to the class. After their initial book report presentations, students will then research various charities and select one charity to represent their homeroom class. In June, students come to school dressed up as the same book character for their book report and present their book to the school. Other classes will come in and drop change in their buckets for each presentation. Next, as a school we will vote on the charity we would like to donate the change all of the 5th grade students have collected. We will generously make a donation as a school to a charity in need. Important Dates: *Book Report Due Date: May 28th (This is graded!) *Change for Charities Event: June 4th (This is when we present our projects to the school for “change.”) *Please note this is subject to change b/c of SOL testing* Thank you for your support, Miss Carey & Mrs. Davis Oral Presentation Guidelines for Change for Charities 1. Start with a fun, exciting introduction to the book. One that will catch our attention! 2. Tell us the title and author of the book. 3. Tell us what the book is about, include the setting and brief summary of the book, but don’t tell us the ending of the story. You want to make us interested and want to read the book!! 4. Describe the main characters of the book, and explain why you chose that character to dress like. 5. Mention where we can find the book (the location), if we want to read it. 6. Listen and be respectful of all presentations! YOU WILL RECEIVE 40 POINTS FOR DRESSING UP AS A CHARACTER FROM THE STORY! You may use props to help add to your character! For a TOTAL OF 100 POINTS! Additional information and tips for the oral book reports 1. Students may jot down helpful information on 3x5 cards. *Introduction *Title and author *What is the book about? *Describe the important characters and why you chose to dress like that character. *Where we can find the book. 2.
