8-3 SCIENTIFIC NOTATION
Objectives: Students will be able to
1) express numbers in scientific notation and standard notation
2) find products and quotients of numbers expressed in scientific notation
Standard notation is the way that we write our numbers.
Scientific notation is a way to write very large or very small numbers.
Numbers in scientific notation are written in the form a  10 n
Rules for scientific notation
1) There is always one digit to the left of the decimal point in the "a" . That digit is a
number between 1 and 9.
2) All remaining significant digits fall to the right of the decimal point in the "a" . Zeroes
that fall at the end of a number or at the beginning of a number are not significant
digits.
3) "n" is an integer.
Convert from standard notation to scientific notation

Convert from scientific notation to standard notation.
