Goals:

2. Find products and quotients of numbers expressed in scientific notation.

A negative sign in the exponent means the number is between 0 and 1 (a fraction!!)
A negative sign before the number means the number is less than 0

Scientific notation is useful when multiplying or dividing very large or very small numbers.
Change the 1 problem into 2 problems:
1. A problem with the numbers
2. A problem with the powers of 10
Evaluate each product. Express the results in both scientific notation and standard form.

Word to the Wise
Looking at the last problem, the exponents were
12 and 15. If we subtract exponents, the exponent would be 3. BUT, the exponent in the answer was 2 because
6.5 x 8.7 = 56.55 which 1< 56.55< 10 is not true. We must move the the decimal point one unit to the left to put it into scientific notation
AND add +1 to 3 exponent.
