Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Status Good Standing SAP reviewed once a year (end of Spring term) Dismissed Attend a SAP workshop Submit a SAP APPEAL to Financial Aid Office The Appeal Committee review can take up to 6 weeks Probation If your appeal is approved, you will be placed on probation Progress and GPA will be reviewed every semester Students who are on probation and have attempted more than 150% units will be funded up to the approved units and maintain SAP every semester Financial Aid eligibility is based on Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) How SCC measures Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Maintain a 2.0 GPA Must pass 67 % or more of total attempted units. Attempt less than 150% of units required for a degree or certificate. *** Financial Aid and Admissions measure academic success differently. *** Students may be dismissed from Admissions, Financial Aid, or both. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Dismissal Reasons: GPA/Percentage Maximum Timeframe Denied Final IMPORTANT Students may be dismissed for both GPA/Percentage, AND Maximum Timeframe. Students may be dismissed one term for one reason, and a following term for a different reason. Denied Final Students who have earned a Bachelor’s Degree are no longer eligible for financial aid at Sacramento City College Students who have attempted over 150 units are no longer eligible for financial aid at Sacramento City College Dismissed for Progress/ GPA: GPA Below 2.0 cumulative GPA Progress Progress: 67% of your units attempted are: “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” and “P”. Progress is calculated using the following equation: Must be 67% or Total units with “A”+“B”+“C”+“D”+ “P” more (Total Units Attempted @ SCC) Units earned via a consortium are used when calculating progress Percentage **NOTE: Discounted units (i.e. Academic Renewals) do not affect GPA but are counted in the attempted units for Progress. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Step 1:Gain Access to your Transcripts via E-services Get your Transcripts using eServices Appeal Step 2: Highlight every term on your transcript that you didn’t meet SAP Highlight terms you failed Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) GOOD TERM Add up EARNED units & divide by ALL ATTEMPTED units (Total units with “A”, “B”, “C”, “D”, “P” (Total units Attempted @SCC) Must be 67% or more EXAMPLE: Earned 8 units = 0.67 =67% Attempted 12 units FAILED TERM Dismissal Appeal: Explanation Tips Typed State reason(s) that caused you to be dismissed. Address all unsuccessful terms in your academic history. Attach supporting documents Appeals without supporting documents will most likely be denied. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION Reasons beyond the student’s control Medical documents Obituary or death certificate ****Immediate family for purposes of a financial aid appeal is parents, siblings, children, spouse, or grandparents Orders for military Verification of natural disaster Documentation by a 3rd party professional i.e. police, courts, counselor, therapist Dismissed for Maximum Timeframe: You have attempted 150% of units required for a degree or certificate program. This is usually equivalent to completing 90 units. Example: If your degree/certificate program requires 50 units, 150% of 50 units would be 75 units. -ORIf your degree/certificate program requires 30 units, 150% of 30 units would be 45 units. What is “Total Attempted Units”? Total Attempted units are: 1. All units at SCC: • • • Up to 30 remedial units of coursework may be deducted from the total units attempted. Prior to Fall 2003 in the 200 series Starting Fall 2003 < 100 series 2. All COMPLETED units at Los Rios Community College District (ARC, CRC & FLC). 3. All TRANSFERABLE from outside colleges All 3 of these combined= “Total Attempted Units” Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Statement Tips MAXIMUM TIMEFRAME State your goal at SCC Explain why you have not completed graduation/transfer requirements Explain what actions you have taken to make sure you will graduate in the near future Meet with a SCC Counselor Note: If you are dismissed for a combination of reasons, both your GPA/PCT and Time Frame you must submit TWO SAP Appeal forms and statements. Stick to classes in your educational goal.
